Thanks Bob...I gotta say, I'm pretty impressed with the Phase 95 mini...Not only is it cute as hell being so small (same mini size as the Tubescreamer I have btw...), it's a good sounding little pedal...It's actually 4 pedals in one, sorta, but again, I'm really liking it, a lot...

Thanks again dude...

There's no difference in any of the amp settings, mic placement or anything dude...Not sure why it sounds bigger/better, other than maybe I played it a little harder/better??? Same guitar & everything man...

That's really weird. The first one sounds a bit sterile like it was recorded at low volume and the 2nd one sounds much more lively and has more energy. Maybe cos you were playing along with the first one and more into it? I dunno.

I haven't heard them in a mix yet. I'll listen to that and then to these clips again in the morning when I get back to the office.

None of your tones are bad though miner.

Thanks again Jdude...It's weird to me too, because I recorded those guitars back to back/one right after another, & didn't touch anything until I recorded the slide, then all I did was bump the gain from 2.5 up to 5 on the dial...

They weren't recorded at low volume either...Well, maybe if you compare them to how loud Greg tracks his guitars at :smiles: , so again, I'm not sure what's up...

Can you here the difference though?
I don't record as loud as Greg either. That would be too much for my little room anyway, I record with it peaking at just over 100db.

On the point, I think it's true that a room has a maximum volume that'll sound good.

I can hear a difference between my tracks & Greg's tracks for sure.... And yes, I hear the difference in the 2 tracks I posted, but again, not sure what happened...Doesn't matter though, that was just something I was fooling about with anyway...

I don't know how big the room is Greg uses, but my room here is about 12' x 10'...
Not terribly small, but I could use more space for sure, but it'll work, hell it has to... :lollers:

I actually have no idea how many db's I usually record at, but I have thought about getting a proper decibel meter...I tried an app on a cell phone once, but it was terribly in-accurate...Maybe I need to invest in one...
JD01 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 5:52 pm On the point, I think it's true that a room has a maximum volume that'll sound good.
You're probably right dude, it kinda makes sense...Again, my room isn't huge, but it's big enough to get good sounding tracks...I have pretty fair treatment again too...All the rockwool panels I'd made, I trashed 'em & used the rockwool for the 2nd ISO cab build, but I did buy some pre-made panels (Primacoustic) used from a local guy a few months ago...I need some basstraps, but the treatment I have has made a huge difference...

So I went from no treatment, to diy rockwool panels, back to no treatment, then to the Primacoustic panels...The treatment I have now doesn't deaden the room as much, but I had almost twice as much treatment in here too...I'll have to take some pics as I basically have a "new" room...I painted & re-did some things, plus the new panels, so it actually looks nothing like it did before...I even did some things to my closet in here (carpet on the walls, plus I built a little guitar rack for all my guitars), basically turning it into a vocal/acoustic instrument booth...Again, I'll have to snap some pics to show you guys...

Miner...

I like those Strat tones. So is that a Strat with a humbucker in the bridge I guess? Anyway, nice and chuggy. No low end problems. Midrange is nice and smooth.

Thanks Trip...Yep, strat with a humbucker (Mutt's "Hard Head Bridge")...It's just a cheap, 2009-ish MIM strat (I bought it new in 2009, so I'm assuming that's when it was built), but the p'ups transformed it into my favorite guitar...It's great IMO...

Minerman wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 9:36 pm Ok, here's a mix clip with the Phase 95 on the lead guitar...Probably not what you guys are used to, or expect, so I'll post the raw tracks later tonight....

Signal chain:
Strat bridge HB > Phase 95 (lead gtr only) > Chupacabra > attenuator > G12H > SM57

  • Resonance...: 2
    Presence.....: 6
    Bass..........: 6
    Middle........: 3
    Treble........: 6
    Master........: 8
    Gain 2........: 2.5
    Gain 1........: 2.7
    ERA...........: modern
    Bright 2.......: L
    Bright 1.......: off
    Focus..........:off
***Lead guitar only***Phase 95: 3 - 4 (speed) blue led (Phase 45 mode), script off

Same settings & mic placement for all the guitars except the lead part, I just turned Gain 2 up to "5"

Attenuator on "10" (this little thing attenuates a little, even when the volume is dimed, which it was for these tracks)...

There are effects on all the guitars (reverb on rhythm, reverb/chorus/delay/phase on lead), but again, I'll post the raw tracks later tonight...

Phase 95 MIX 9-14-2019.mp3

Lemme know what you guys think, not only the guitars, but the whole mix...
I think it sounds pretty good minerdude. I think you're rushing the rhythm guitars a little bit on the initial chugs. Seems like the timing could be a hair tighter to me.

I like the slide but for me I think the warble is too fast on the phaser. I'd like it slowed down a little so it's more subtle.

Just stopped for lunch, plugged my guitar in and started playing... quite liked the tone I had immediately and it was something that I very rarely play and don't think I've ever recorded before: A clean bridge humbucker.

So its my custom Doghouse Humbucker into my clean channel with everything on 5.
Just bashing away on some chords.

Yeah - I normally play my split neck pickup clean and it stays pretty much totally clean and quite stratty.
I don't normally play clean that aggressively either, but I have a plan for Rec Challenge 3 which could use this tone on one side with my tele on the other. Mutt still has the guts of my tele though.

Thanks Greg...Yeah, the timing is off, for sure, but no biggie...

I'm really liking the Chupa/G12H combo, it's similar to a Greenback, just has a different character for lack of better explanation...Doesn't matter what speaker I use though, the Chupacabra is awesome to me...I absolutely love this amp & will never part with this one...

The way the phaser is set on that clip sounds more like a univibe to me...I'm impressed with this phaser pedal, a lot more than I thought I'd be...

Working on an old song that me and a mate first recorded while I was doing my MSc. 2002 I think.
Anyway - here's the heavy tone... I reckon only Miner and Liv will actually like this but its come out pretty well for a heavy tone.

I've not really used the high gain channel on my amp much at all.

I think it sounds pretty tidy for a heavy tone. I haven't added the bassline in yet.
