Fishing? A long way from covid riddled idiots?
Sort of. Yes fishing, but there was still a shocking number of people in my little usually ignored area of Texas beach. I'd never seen that strip of beach as crowded as I saw it last weekend. The weekdays weren't too bad, the weekend got ridiculous. It was mental. I don't think it was particularly dangerous, but it was way too crowded for me. After yelling at some kids to get the fuck out of my long lines, I yelled at their parents. Regular people don't understand surf fishing. I had to explain it like this: I'm fishing with big baits on really big hooks to catch big fish. When a kid gets in my line and I see the fishing rod wiggle, I'm setting that big hook into whatever is disturbing it. That's how fishing works. If I catch some idiot's idiot kid, so be it.

OK. from Greg's suggestion. Here's my bass recorded into the silent mode on my H&k.
I recorded it clean and then I stuck a Klon on it.

Can we hear the same riff using your usual set up with your Behringer thing. For an A/B ?

I like the first clip better though. The second might sound better in a mix maybe but on their own the first clips wins to my ears.

You don't have a fucking klon lol. What do you mean by klon?

Anyway, I like the first one better. The second one is just louder.

This one.

JD has obviously put way more miles on his than i have on mine but when i do sit down and fuck around these days that little pedal adds a nice little bit of magic. Obviously i haven't and luikely never will get to A/B it with the real thing, but any review of this pedal has said it is pretty spot on except it adds just a wee bit of bottom to a tone as the gain increases. So not totally transparent but sure beats trying ot find some asshle online to sell me a real klon for 4000$ :lollers2: :lollers2:

Okay now that Lt. Bob's amp is fully buttoned up we can compare it to my own similar build and see how they differ....if at all.

These clips are from a DI track that I reamped through each amp so there's no variation. Same track, same cab, same mics in the same spots. The only difference is the amps.

My amp has actual knobs with numbers on them, Boob's amp has chickenheads and no other markings, so I got the settings as identical as I could.

And there it is. I had just about forgotten about it!!

Hmmm. Pretty dang close really! Good job dudes !

Boobs sounds warm and smooth. Gregs sound bright and spikey. I notice that much more so on the Vibrato. I'll have ot give it another listen when i got fresh ears. But thats my initial thoughts.

Yeah, the vibrato is a little thicker on Lt's but that's hunky dory. EXCELLENT.

Ha ok. Maybe tomorrow or early next week. I'll show the negative feedback option too.

Here's how I hear it from being here in the room with them and in the clips.
I think Boob's is better overall. From the first note I ever put through it I could tell. The low end is tighter and the highs are smoother. It has a more subtle attack and balanced overall sound.
Mine is more aggressive, bigger lows and highs, and it breaks up a little quicker, a little crunchier. I don't think it really shows in the clips, but my tremolo has more depth.
The reverbs are pretty much the same. Mine might be a hair more drippy.

They both measure around 23 watts RMS, but mine seems a touch louder probably due to it's more aggressive punch and sound. I think that works in my favor for playing with a band, but just sitting here I like the sound of Boob's better.

We wanted to see what kind of difference Boob's Orange Drop capacitors make compared to my generic caps. I think the tonal difference is subtle but there is definitely something there. I can't chalk it up to the Orange Drops alone though. Even though they are the same amp, there are other variables like the general build and wire layout, Lt Boob's master volume, the negative feedback mod, different tubes. These are not huge differences, but they are differences.

For me the final results are clear. I'm ripping mine apart and building it like Boob's.

What guitar and pups mate?

Or did I miss that...?

I also think I can hear a tighter response from Lt's amp. I maybe wanting to hear that after you described it though... its pretty subtle.

Yes. Agreed. I could hear that in the clips.

Disagree that it's "better", they both have their own merit and someone could definitely use each amp in different situations. Both fantastic builds regardless take a bow sir.

Well thanks. Better is subjective for sure.
