Ok dudes, been absent for a long time here, so here are a few shitty clips of the JVM410...I'll start out saying these are terrible, & sound nothing like what I hear in the room, at all...I used the actual settings I've been using with a live band, so it is what it is...

I actually broke a string on the SG when I fired Reaper up today, & haven't bothered changing them yet, so these will sound a little different because I used the Ibanez...I can't remember when the last time I actually broke a string, but apparently it was ready to pop, so it's all good because it happened here instead of with the band...Tomorrow I'm gonna do some proper clips using the SG...

I'm using the "Bastard Cab" for these clips too, & it sounds a bit different than the EVH Greenback cab I normally use...It's at the practice pad & I just honestly didn't wanna lug that thing home because I'd just have to lug it right back...

So, the mic placement (which is awful), combined with the SG being out of commission until I change strings, combined with using a cab I usually don't use all add up to a pretty rough sounding bunch of clips... :lollers2:

The effects I have on some of this are a TC Electronic Vibe (using a TonePrint chorus sound), & an MXR Phase 95, both in the loop...I'm gonna re-work my pedalboard tomorrow too, so I'll most likely put the phaser into the front of the amp as it sounds better...

Thanks man, but I really think these clips sound terrible myself...In the room it's glorious, to me anyway...Now I gotta say, the Bastard Cab sounds pretty different from my EVH 4x12...It doesn't seem to have as much bottom, probably the difference between an "A" & "B" cab I'm assuming...

Quick question: My strat is overly bright through this amp, will changing the pots make any difference??? I have some cheap push/pull pots in it, but I'm thinking about re-wiring it with regular pots & a couple mini-toggles for the coil split thing...any help???

Going to 250k pots could help.

Or roll the treble off of 10. :coolstorybro:

Rolling the tone back on the guitar helps but I’d like it to tame it just a little. It’s got my Mutt Custom pickups in it & I don’t wanna fuck with it too much

Would 250k pots be darker??? No biggie just wondering. I’m still trying to dial the JVM in better, although the SG sounds pretty damn good with it IMHO

Well what pots are in it? 250k would be a little darker than 500k with a humbucker.

Yeah 500k pots dude

I’m gonna try to find a happy medium with the amp controls before I do anything drastic though

Thanks Ray...not sure what’s up with the streaming thing, but I uploaded those clips to the forum...

If you don’t recognize ‘em, that’s a couple Skynyrd songs we play in the band dude...

Just mucking with ya dude. I pleased as piss your are you playing and gigging. Thats the the dream right there.

I like the crunch sound man. All of them are pretty useable. I know the struggle of not being able to grab the tone you hear in the room. That really sucks. Frustrating. But i am sure once you get your studio legs back under you you'll nail it.

As for the pots thing when i was shopping around for new pots for one of my guitars i could have sworn i saw some oddball middle of the road pots that were either 400k or 300k. And thiught that was interesting. But i am not that mich of player that would likely notice that difference so i just stuck with the 500k.

Might be worth checking out maybe?!

Thanks dude, it's been a long time since I've actually been in a band & I've honestly missed it...This JVM is a fuckin' beast, & it's got a lot of different tones in it, I mean a lot...It's basically a 12 channel amp...I have the clean & crunch pretty much figured out how I want/need them set up, but I'm still learning which od channel I wanna use for my lead stuff...Trial & error I suppose...

I'm working on dialing the amp in at this very moment dude with the SG, & I'm gonna make some more clips today too...I might just need to roll off the tone on the strat, & find a happy medium with the amp settings...

Ok, here's round 2 of the JVM410H clips guys...I re-strung the SG & tried to dial the amp in a little better, & I'm much happier with these clips...

Signal chain: SG > JVM410 > Greenback > Audix i5 (exact same mic position as before, haven't touched it)

Global amp settings:
Master volume: 5
Resonance: 0
Presence: 5

***There's chorus & phaser on some of these, but it's pretty obvious*** I tried running the phaser into the front of the amp, & I'm getting a lot of noise/hum, so I'm gonna have to sort that out, these clips have the fx in the loop...

***I also used the amp's reverb on a couple slide parts***

Amp settings:
Clean channel, orange mode
Volume: 4
Bass: 4
Mid: 5
Treble: 10
Gain: 6
Reverb: 0
Master Volume: 5
SG_JVM410 CLEAN 7-1-2020.mp3

Amp settings:
Crunch channel, orange mode
Volume: 5
Bass: 4
Mid: 5
Treble: 5
Gain: 10
Reverb: 0
Master Volume: 5
SG_JVM410 CRUNCH 7-1-2020.mp3

Amp settings:
OD1 channel, orange mode
Volume: 6
Bass: 5
Mid: 10
Treble: 1
Gain: 3
Reverb: 4 ***only on the slide part***
Master Volume: 5
SG_JVM410 OD1 7-1-2020.mp3

Amp settings:
OD2 channel, orange mode
Volume: 6
Bass: 5
Mid: 10
Treble: 1
Gain: 3
Reverb: 4 ***only on the slide part***
Master Volume: 5
SG_JVM410 OD2 7-1-2020.mp3

While I'm still learning this amp, I fuckin' love it dudes...I'm getting way more use from it than I ever would the Mini-Marshalls, so I'm pretty damn happy with it...

I am getting some volume differences using the fx loop (my chorus pedal is quieter, & the phaser is louder, just a bit though), but I have the loop mix on 100%...I still need to play around with that, & sort it out a little better...

I also need to mess with the negative feedback control Greg installed...For the past few weeks, I've had it on about 2 1/2 or so, from what I know about it that should be around JCM800/plexi territory...I don't think that's anything you guys will hear in clips, it's more of a feel thing...

Lemme know what you guys think about these clips...

Those sound great to me. I like OD1 better than OD2, but OD2 might be a little better strictly for leads.

Back the fx loop mix off 100% just a little...like got to 90% and see if it cleans up the fx loop mix.

Thanks man, I can't decide if I like OD1 or OD2 better...They're pretty close to each other, but I did find something today messing around...The od channels are bright, very bright, so just dime the mids, & adjust the treble enough where it "cuts" a little...Seemed to work ok so far anyway...LOL...

On the loop, I've been meaning to piddle with that for a while now...There's a lot of features on this amp, & I've still only scratched the surface of them...Gonna spend tomorrow working with the effects I have to see if I can get them dialed in a little better....I like how the fx I have sound, they just need to be a little more subtle, which turning the loop level down will help with...

Also, put that phaser in front. If it's noisy then check your cables or grounding. I really don't think cramming line level fx loop into a stompbox is the way to go.

I haven't had chance to listen to this yet... But I always have my phaser out front. The only things in the loop are delay and reverb.

Update on my fx loop journey...

I’ve tried everything I know to try & the mini-phaser sounds best to me in the loop. I’ve tried different pedal order, cables, power supplies, & again it sounds best in the loop to me...

I did back the fx loop mix knob down to about 8 or so, & it seems a little better. From 8 down to about 5 sounds terrible though. Anything below 5 sounds better, but then the fx aren’t very audible, which defeats the purpose of even using them. I tried the +4/-10db switch (rack gear/pedals), & obviously it sounds best at the-10 setting...

Not sure why but the phaser I have just doesn’t play nice into the front of the JVM. It does fine through the Chupa & I don’t remember it doing this through the Mini-Marshall amps Greg now owns.

A new/different phaser is now on the “list”...But I’m just gonna make due for a couple months & probably buy the TC Electronic Plethora multi-fx pedal..It’s not a big deal as I’m only using 2 pedals right now anyway...
:minernuggs:

I did order this yesterday though:

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail ... elay-pedal

Should be here next week & should be a pretty cool pedal

What phaser do you have? Some of them have little dip switches inside that allows them to be set for fx loop or in-front operation.

I used a Phase 90 in front of the JVM and it was fine.

Ah, you know those are true bypass. Maybe that's why it's noisy out front. Well whatever, use it however it works best for you. :punk:
