Re: The Tone Thread
Here’s a bass tone I’ve been playing around with my amp sim. Sounds a little better than my first test, which was very bright.
Any idea on why there’s a tiny bit of a chorus effect?

Interesting. Except for the phasiness, sounds good.CrowsofFritz wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 10:49 pm Here’s a bass tone I’ve been playing around with my amp sim. Sounds a little better than my first test, which was very bright.

Try it straight in, so sim. Seem if that chorusy weirdness is there straight from the bass.

Re: The Tone Thread
Just tried it direct and it still sounds chorus like. Damn. I’m gonna go post on a bass forum.

Re: The Tone Thread
The answers I see are that the pickups might be too close to the strings. I’ll try lowering them.

Re: The Tone Thread
yeah .... strats will do that if you get the p'ups too close to the string.
On a strat it sounds like the strings playing 2 different notes at the same time .... usually one's a lot softer than the other but is there .... worst case the 2nd note can be as loud as the primary note .
Seems like on a bass you might get a phase effect out of that.

COOL. I'll download & then find a tech to follow it...the tech I was using is working much further south now. THANK Greg & thanks Uncle Doug.
Cheers

Re: The Tone Thread
Here it is with flats. I think it sounds better!
Still don’t know why it has that chorus sound to it.

Re: The Tone Thread
No, but it does it straight DI, too. Doesn’t matter if it’s amp sims or not.

Are you using just one pickup?CrowsofFritz wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2020 6:51 pm No, but it does it straight DI, too. Doesn’t matter if it’s amp sims or not.

Re: The Tone Thread
Yup! I asked on a bass forum why this is and they all tell me that’s the Hofner sound and due to the hollowness of the bass, but then that wouldn’t explain why Paul’s bass doesn’t sound that way, unless it was just masked by other sounds. I know he switched to a Rickenbacker bass after their live era.

Re: The Tone Thread
I don't know if that's true because other hollow guitars and basses don't do that. But maybe that's a Hofner thing, I really don't know.CrowsofFritz wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2020 7:12 pm Yup! Have you tried all the weird switching options? Maybe it's something in that stuff.

Re: The Tone Thread
Yeah, it does that no matter where the switches and knobs are placed. I’m not too worried about it as it’s very minute, and I doubt you could hear it in a live setting.

It is strange though. Play with the pickup height and see what happens.CrowsofFritz wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2020 7:19 pm Yeah, it does that no matter where the switches and knobs are placed. I’m not too worried about it as it’s very minute, and I doubt you could hear it in a live setting.
