Ok. I think i am getting closer.

I ~think~i got the vocals smoothed out a little. They still feel a little floaty in the mix. Airy? I don't know what the word is for it for how i am hearing it but i can live with it. I brought up Tweaked the accenty solos a little, fixed some of the weird bac kup vocal stuff and a few other minor adjustments.

Give it a spin and let me know what you think. Thanks Rebels. :like:

This sounds great, Shan!

I'd bring up the Ooos and Ahhhs a little.
Lead vocal is more consistent on this and it sounds good.
I'd Humanize the drums a little more (if you haven't already) - do you know about the Humanize function in Reaper? If you already have I think you should manually adjust the kick beats a little, just so that when you have two beats right next to each other they're not the same velocity.

Ok. Yea my listen in the car reference i think i'd like the back vox to hug the mains a little more than they are. but not a whole lot more. i am familiar with humanize feature but even at it 's most subtle settings it did something to kick that just sounded wrong. like it definitely humanized it but it also made it sound like the most inconsistent drummer ever. I think what i may need to do is just go in and manually adjust each of the second kick note i think if it is that noticeable.

Thanks JD.

The Humanize function can be pretty aggresive. You only need 5-10% on timing and velocity to make the drummer sound shit-faced. :steins:

I think thats likely what i was doing wrong i think i had my kick in around the 8% area and i really didn't like the results so i just ctrl-z'd all that.

I do not use Reaper but have run into similar problems. You may also try setting the quantize to a finer measurement like 16th or 32nd notes. The when you humanize, it will be moving toward smaller increments.

Cubase has something called a logical editor. Don't know if Reaper has anything like it but you can use it to randomly assign velocities in a given range.

Dude, Shan, I think this is great. I like the ohs and ahs sort of in the background.

Good work man!

Something Something a deadhorse? :lollers: :lollers:

Ok i went back and modified the vocals here using some techniques shared in another thread and i kind of like these results better. I like how much more nicely the compressor responded to the over all track after i coddled the loud bits i didn't like. All over general remix as well. Cleaned up some smashy crashy midi notes that got doubled (in one spot tripled) and nudged slightly east that was making a FREAKING mess of previous mixes. Took a while to pin that one down. :headwall: Like sorting fly turds out of pepper. :dislike: Gross.

Sadly i think the previous mix had some bullshit mastering plug ins on the render and this mix does not. Not exactly a great A/B.

I kind of want to throw this one out into the ether finally after a quick master and start / finish something else. Any nits and stuff speak now or forever hold your peas and carrots.

Loved the show as a kid - love the theme version as an adult.
I can't believe I knew most of the lyrics.
GOOD, done!

I actually like that snare dark ..... thought it was phat.

And while it was pretty loud, I'm not convinced it was too loud for this style.

Nice mix and playing mang!

Ha I still love it. The vocals are much more even now. I think you could bump the level of the entire vocal track up a smidge, but just a little. Otherwise it's good.!

Cool thanks guys. Lt. Bob I really liked the dark snare as well. Maybe not that dark but i think this is the brightest i have ever mixed a snare to my recollection.

One other thing i forgot to mention was that in this mix i also changed how some of the inserted effects received the signals. I had no idea at all about post FX sends. For years i always just arbitrarily sent a signal to a reverb or delay and called it good. Sending it post fx, that alone really cleaned up a good deal of what i didn't love about previous mixes. And after listening in the car this morning i think i forgot the floor tom to be sent post FX as it is pretty boomy.

Ok roger all that. Vocals up and i might dial the bass and kick back just a smidgen as well. They were really clanking and thumping at high db's in the car this a.m.

I think it's done. Pending any other reviews.

Shan, I really like this.
Like Greg said, maybe bring the lead vocal up a bit. I think its alright though.
I do think you should bring up the backing vocal relative to the lead vocal.
