Death Pool - recording like it's 2007 (ft. gerg)

Post by vomitHatSteve »

My glam band is doing a project where we record a reaction song to each of the new episodes of Game of Thrones this season.
We need a turnaround time of several hours, so of course I'm not doing any revisions of this song.
But our chains don't vary much in tracking, so any feedback is helpful for next week's.

Lol I had no idea that's the plan when doing this. Hilarious!

I guess maybe I should watch an episode one of these days. Never seen it.

Anyway, for future mixes get the overheads up some in the drum tracks. Hats, ride, crashes, are almost invisible here.

Steve, that's excellent... but plot spoilers, mate! I won't be watching it for a while, I don't have much time on my hands. Hence being slack listening to this.

Agree with Greg about the drums.
Your vocals are excellent on this as they have been on all your stuff lately.
I know its more "conventional" but I much prefer this guitar sound to your normal Regdar weirdness! Maybe Regdar wouldn't work without the weirdness though.

Assuming Greg is doing the guitars here?

Oh, cool. Well in that case there's no excuse for them being buried!

Alright. I'll bump the OHs next time.

The rhythm guitars are me; the solo (and some of the bgvox) is my roommate.

Definitely a few spoilers here. As there will be in the song next week.

I've only listened to the intro as I've not seen the episode.
I like the intro - the drums are meaty and the guitars, while a little fizzy, as fine.
I've only just noticed the Greg reference...sorry. Meaty as I said.
I look forward to hearing more when I've had a chance to see the flick.
Cheers

Lol. I can listen without a care because I have no idea what any of this is about!

Drum overheads are better than the last one.

To be fair, neither do I. These are the only two episodes I've watched

Watched... OK...Ep 1...
I prefer this stripped down, more direct version of VHS music - Using EzyGerg make a big difference too.
I enjoyed everything about it - and the only nit would be to ask for a little more definition to the bass and centring it.
Ep 2.
Why is the bass over to the side?
Again - everything is fresh and healthy - not as "bright" as the 1st ep.
The scene that the refrain comes from was pretty hackneyed - the show them as friendly, well rounded, humourous folk stuff.
The song is better than that scene. The dynamics work a treat.
Does this mean you should be less deliberate in your future recordings?
Cheers

Thanks, Ray.

The bass is 4 channels (DI and split to 3 amps). The balance of those signals should be pretty close to centered. (It's actually near identical to what I do on my solo stuff, but less buried)

It's weird how melancholy and dark ep 2 turned out to be since the first draft of the song was about how "A Song of Ice and Fire" sounds like either an off-brand IcyHot pad or a drink made of cinnamon whiskey mixed with peppermint schnapps.

This one's a little rougher than the others. The guitar and vocal timing is all over the map and the overheads are a little too subdued again. But I get it - yall are banging this stuff out in a time-sensitive manner. Keep it going. :coolstorybro:

It should be the same drum chain as the last one, but I may have mixed things up.

Guitarist actually recorded his part weeks ago, but didn't want to do extra takes. :(

Awesome VHS. I don't really partake of the show but i can appreciate what you are doing man.

Now, if you do this cool punk rock metally TL;DW for every episode of every season i would definitely sink some time into that man! I have a bunch of friends that always bring up GoT when we are out for drinks and me and my other buddy are just lost because we just haven't partaken of the cultural happening. We drink more and listen to the excitement though.
