Been trying for some low gain rock n roll tones lately.
Left guitar is just my crimson bridge humbucker through the crunch channel with the gain down low, right channel is my tele bridge pickup through a Klon into the clean channel. Mic is just an i5 on the edge of the dust-cap.

Reckon these sound pretty good actually.

A few packs a day will get you there.

Sounds are nice though, very CCR.
I do really like his voice, been listening to a lot of CCR lately - they're a band that completely passed me by until about 2 years ago. Don't think they were ever big in the UK.

My pal that comes to visit every now and then does the music for most gigs all around where he lives out in the middle of the boondocks. He jokes in his stage spiel - "We (his daughter helps out sometimes) play both types of music - country and Creedence."

Whenever he's here, if left to his own devices he just sits with a guitar and sings, and he ran through his Creedence gig repertoire when he was here about 3 or 4 weeks ago - 16 songs, I think there were. Or 13. Can't remember. Heaps.

If I'm occasionally (it's happened three times in over a decade) at one of his gigs, he'll call me on stage up to "help" out - and without doubt he'll launch straight into Proud Mary and I'll have to remember how to play it on the fly in whatever key he's playing it in.. :lollers:

I had a good half a dozen Creedence songs in a previous covers band, but he's next level. 16 of the damn things. CCR were pretty big here, back in the day. A classic rock radio staple.
I've worked out a few CCR songs now, they're generally really quite simple with a few cool riffs and ideas chucked in.

That's why he knows 16 of them. Pretty easy stuff generally. Fogerty had a good ear for melody and pop, despite the raggedy voice.
Yeah, he did. They could easily be acoustic folk songs if they were a bit slower (and played on acoustic obviously).

Dude....

I love those tones. I wouldn't even call them lo gain. They would work for all your stuff honestly. That's good gain right there. I'd be fine with that on anything i did. Good Job.

CCR was like my demographics gateway band of doing punk covers of our dads music for our dads lol. they loved it when we'd cover them. CCR have a good way of lacing good melody over simple jams.

You are going to have get comfy belting out vocals !!!

Its comparatively low gain for me. Lower gain than that is pretty much clean!

nice sounds man ...... not ever gonna sound exactly like Fogerty's amp since he used a solid state Kustom which were gigantic POS although they were beautiful and I had several.

I'd say you've captured the essential parts of that tone but yours sound better because you're playing thru a proper amp.

You are aren't you? Hope it wasn't a Gorilla or something.

But this sounds very good to me ...... I could happily live with that tone on basically everything

Yeah it's my H&K. I never had a Gorilla as a kid, I had a minute Hohner.
Cheers Bob.

I feel like it's a common sense amp for most home bodied DIY'rs. I'd like to get my hands on one to play with.

They don't do the 18 anymore, they do a 20, although i have the deluxe 40. It's not "perfect" for any particular thing, you can dial in a half decent impression of most things though... but with the variety of channels/switching, variable wattage/attenuation and cab emulation its the perfect amp for me... I can arrange/record in near silence when people are asleep then record nice and loud when I have time.

If you're a home recording hobbyist with a reasonable budget I truly believe its the perfect amp. No fancy OxBoxes or shit like that, not knocking it, it's just a lot of money.

My amp was about 750 quid, my cab was 200 quid, I use an 80 quid mic and various overdrive pedals.

The only real drawback for someone like me is that I don't feel I can get a "keeper" tone out of it in silence... they're good enough for writing and arranging etc but there's something missing in a final mix. Thst being said, I tend to be well practiced when I do have time to record loud so I use this drawback as an advantage.

Short of a Kemper like Armi uses or one of them OxBox things I've rarely heard genuinely good tones captured silently.

This was my first amp. The legends are true. They were awful in every conceivable way.

Anyways, I'll give a listen when I'm back in front of my studio computer later. Gotta hear these tonez.

I had a Gorilla amp. A good chunk of my current awesomeness was honed on that shitty little amp.
