No eq or comp or anything on guitars, just panning and whatever pedals I was using. Mic'd with a 57 on my cab playing lower volumes on the 10 watt setting on the amp.

I am loving this guitar :jam:
That is awesome man. i love it. Sounds killer !!!! :like: :like:

Is all the guitar work in that clip just the new LP ?

Bras are like guitars - you gotta try before you buy. Don't they know that?

Ok dudes, here's the very first clip of the Chupacabra in a mix...After listening, I already hear some fizz, so I'm gonna have to work on dialing it out...It's not terrible, but I know the amp is capable of much better...I already know how to fix this, more volume & a little less gain, a slightly darker mic position, or both, so gimme a pass this time, I'm pretty damn excited just to have the amp...

Signal chain: Ibanez RG350 (Duncan Custom Custom SH11 bridge p'up)> Chupacabra > Bastard 4x12-Greenback > i5

The only post-processing on the guitars is reverb...
  • Resonance: 2
    Presence: 8
    Bass: 8
    Middle: 6
    Treble: 6
    Master: 4
    Gain 2: 2
    Gain 1: 8
    Focus: OFF
    ERA: R/80's
    Bright 2: L
    Bright 1: C/OFF
    Pussy Trimmer: 5

While I've been driving myself nuts as usual, I had a revelation to just plug into the damn amp without recording a di for "safety"...It's true the di allows me to change the tone later, but I also realize I've been using it as a crutch for way too long...So, it's past time to just plug in & hit record...This will actually help me in the long run, as I'll play better, & commit to a sound, instead of fucking around so much...

Something I've noticed right out of the gate is this is a really versatile amp, even more so than I realized long ago...Of course it'll do clean to mean, but there are so many variants of the "in-between" tones that it's insane...In the past, I wasn't a fan of the resonance knob on any of the amps I've had, but just a little with this amp makes a big difference...I love my little Mini Jubilee, & it's a fine little amp, but it just doesn't hold a light to the Chupacabra...This is the "end all be all" amp for me dudes, of course I'll have GAS for other stuff, but I officially have "the" amp for me...

No gut shots or any other pics yet, but I'll try to get around to that tonight...It's hard to take the amp out of it's headshell while I'm playing through it... :minernuggs:

Sorry for the long-ass post, but I'm pretty wound up over here... :jam:

Yup, sounds like a chupacabra. :coolstorybro:

I know you're shitting yourself over it too. That's awesome.

Keep in mind it's gonna "sweeten" up. All those new components need to wear in and break in, and they will.

Thanks Greg, & yeah, I am shitting myself over here...It's surreal man, I know it's silly, & it's just an amp, but I've been obsessed with getting this thing for a long time...

I hadn't even thought about the amp itself breaking in...Duh... :minernuggs:

Sounds pretty good miner dude. that is the miner sound for sure. I hear the feintest little bit of fizz but it isn't a deal killer or anything. It can work with what you do. very minimal bit of tweaking required.

No where to go but up bub. Enjoy !!!!

Nice Miner. Sounds great to me. Nice and thick, especially on those chords that ring out.

Tone time for me as well.
Input I on the modded Marshall with a clean boot pedal in front.
Slightly different playing of the progression in left & right and one was cranked a little more than the other.
Mustang w Humbuckers.
I do plan to record with a single coil to offset the Humbuckers.
But am searching for tone. The sound in the room is MUCH "brighter" than this suggest.
57 and e609 combo with more of the latter as the 57 seemed pretty "dark".
Only basic power chords either side as I'm chasing tone.
Up the middle in chorus are F shaped chords.
I'm struggling due to new computer, new interface and the loss of preferred VSTs.
All that is on the guitars is the Red 3 rhythm guitar preset comp on the guitars and the Reaper Mud free preset on the guitar bus.

Thoughts?

This is a bit dark, but I think it sounds fucking great!

Sounds a bit like everything is about to explode - maybe make it a touch brighter, but not too much. I wouldn't mess with this too much, as I really like what you've got here. The feedback that pushes though is just right, the totally dischordant feedback at the end is spot on too.

I think swapping out one of the guitars for a single coil would be good for this as it would give the whole thing a bit more room. While I think the guitars sound good, they're very similar so you've got that build up of one sound.

There is a bit of flubbyness at the bottom of this, but I think if you tried hi-passing it out it would lose something.

Ray, I really like this - its my favourite song of yours so far.

This is probably the most I've ever heard you activate the rock. :coolstorybro:

I like the base tone for this, but there are a couple issues...
1) There's a lot of "wobble" in your sustain. The guitars are out of tune and/or have intonation problems and/or you're fretting needs a little tidying up. You can hear it right away leading up to about the :15 mark.
2) Take the compressor off the guitars. I promise you there's no need for that. Nothing good comes from compressing overdriven rhythm guitars unless maybe you're doing some real heavy chugga chugga metal crap. Let it breathe.
3) I know what the "Mud Free" EQ is. That thing is pretty savage. If you're using that preset and it's still this dark and thick and needs that much low cut just to get where it is, then the issue has to be the miking.

Can you post the guitar tracks without the blend?

James,
Thanks.I recorded an half dozen guitar tracks before finding the best blend - it is really more a search for marshall guitar tone to suit the song and there are a few mistakes but I'll keep the essence as much as I can. The bottom end is HUGE at present& I haven't sorted it out as yet but I will be wary of the issues you mentioned. Ta mate.
