Thanks. Just getting started using these things and always to good to get outside ears.
It's all good dude...I have to admit I trash ampsims a lot, but that's just me being the ass that I am... :minernuggs:

I have a bunch of ampsims, & they sound pretty convincing to me...I couldn't tell the difference between an ampsim & a real amp either way, so it doesn't matter...The guys here got me into using real amps 5-6 years ago, & that's obviously my first choice, but there are a lot of things that make ampsims pretty useful, like being able to play/record silent...A real amp will never be 100% silent, I even built an ISO Cab (my 2nd) to use my amps at night, but it's just as easy to use an ampsim...

I could still play/record using ampsims & I've thought about trying to sell this thing, but most likely nobody would even consider it...If it did sell, it'd have to be local pickup, & would need at least 2 people to load/unload this thing...You wouldn't believe how heavy this fucker is:

That contraption is awesome. I have never seen something like that. I bet it is heavy to cancel the sound.

And yes I would rather play through and mic an actual amp. I had a little Fender Princeton for a few years but hadnt played it in a decade so I sold to pay rent in a bind. Never though I would play electric guitar again. Oh well.

I am pretty set now with the studio equip. Maybe I will start setting a little aside for an amp. Who knows?

Thanks man, I did a lot better on this one compared to the first...Both sound ok, but it's still not like being in the room with a loud amp...It is heavy, I made a thread about it here, with progress pics...Like I mentioned, I'm betting it goes 300+ lbs, it's hard for me to roll it around on the carpet here...

There are so many cool things out there today, you can get lost in an ocean of gear...If you decide to get an amp, be sure to let the guys here know & I am positive they'll give you their honest opinion...I learned everything I know (which isn't much) about using real amps/cabs/mics from the guys here...

So can/do you switch out the actual speaker or did you just put in your favorite one?

I can swap speakers in just a minute or two, & I've got a small collection over the past few years...

All my speakers are Celestions, Greenback, Vintage 30, G12H Anniversary, G12-65 re-issue & G12-T75...The GB is my favorite, but none of them are better/worse than the others, they're all a little different & have their each thing going on...

I used a jack plate with 2 xlr inputs & 2 - 1/4" jacks...The speaker wire/cable has the little spade connectors, so it's pretty easy to do the swap...If I'm really careful, I can change a speaker without moving the mic(s)...

Since I actually played a gig on the 4th this year, I have my 4 "main" speakers back in my 4x12...I'm probably just gonna leave that as-is & just use the T75 speaker for the ISO cab...I can most likely get "keeper" tracks with the ISO cab, but a 4x12 mic'd in the room just sounds a little better to me...
That could just be in my head too... :minernuggs:

My new toy will be here before too much longer & I would've put the speakers back in the 4x12 anyway, so...

Ok dudes, here's something I've been working on today, far from finished, & the guitars are most likely scratch tracks...I'll probably re-track or re-amp 'em when the new amp arrives...

IMO there's really no point in posting the settings, but here's the signal chain & a little info:

Strat > interface > Amplitube 4 (I used AT4 for the bass too), drums are Superior 3 with some edited e-kit playing... :smiles:

Lemme know what you guys think...

BTW, this is a pic from 2015, right before the shit hit the fan...You can't see the DSL100H or the Chupa sitting on the 4x12, but you can see the Egnater T15, the little DSL1H, & the shitty Randall ISO cab...

Poor little Pookie's bed was right beside me/my desk, this pic was taken before she got sick...She was my little guardian angel... :frown:

Wish I still had that house, it was almost perfect & I had plans to make it even better, but life gets in the way... :minernuggs:

It needn't be crazy expensive either. You mostly play clean don't you?
I've heard some people get some killer tones out of a Fender Blues Jr.

Like the groove man. Are planning on putting vocals to it?

I think the guitars and bass sound good, but I can see you re-tracking them with your new acquisition :)

Thanks dude, it's still a WIP, but I do have vocals for it, & a few different ideas about some other things too...

Yes, a re-track or re-amp will definitely happen...Thanks again dude...

Super late to this party, sorry guys.

Greg, I kind of sort of really prefer the sound of the combo over the other two on their own. But i suppose like anything everything has their place somewhere. I think i just really prefer the combo for my own personal tastes. if i could clone that for my own sound i would. It is awesome.

Don't suppose the interface make's any difference, but its nice to actually record something now i have it.

I was just listening to a few chords ringing out in the room and I thought they sounded pretty good!

This is retarded JD. What a fricken departure form the Blackstar ahahaha!!! I almost think you've been watching too much of that "all the gain" guy. That is heaps of in your face goodness. What were all your settings on that bad boy? Is that a one mic set up ? or multiple? Curious.
musicturtle wrote: ↑Sun Jul 22, 2018 5:41 pm As some of you may remember I acquired an Epiphone Les Paul SILVERBURST! a couple of months ago. I then proceeded to immediately get tendinitis in my left elbow and wrist so playing guitar was really put on the shelf. Anyway some rest did it some good and now I am playing again.

Here is my first solo clip with the new axe. Feedback on the tone is appreciated.

Disclaimer: This is using the stock amp sim that comes with Cubase, the likelyhood of of me getting an amp that is worth recording with anytime soon is very slim so I am going to make the best with what I have.

No EQ or processing on the channel other than the sim.

Thanks
Nothing at all wrong with what you have got going on here MT. Damn fine stab at a sim tone. It works and it doesn't lean too thin or too "simmy" which are some pretty rookie mistakes when it comes to sims. however i do feel sims have come a good long way in the last 4 or 5 year and aren't near as brutal as they used to be. It used to be really really easy to pick out a sim tone. They were pretty boxxy and one dimensional and just fell sort of flat. Now though you can get a sim tone to sit pretty well rounded in a mix and call it a day and fool 98% of your listeners.

This is great man. stoked ot hear the rest. Glad your tendinitis cleared up too! :like: :like: :happytrees:

Right gtr: JCM800 > V30 > '57 & stereo room mics

The bass was a stereo/dual amp & cab thing in AT4...It's basically one amp is the bottom & the other is a little grit mixed in...There's a little eq/compression on the bass post-AT4, but nothing crazy...

I used the same room mics on the bass/guitar tracks hoping it might sound like everything is in the same room...

I think AT4 is the best amp/cab/effects software out there today, & since turtledude threw up a sim tone, why not...There are a bunch of these things out there, a lot of 'em even free (Poulin)...With a little patience & tweaking you can get some decent tones from any of 'em...

Those are very articulate, for sure. They almost sound like single coils when you clean them up with the volume pot. The transient response is unheard of on those, I can really pick out every string on the chords.

The neck pickup really shines here. I know exactly what you mean when you described the average neck pickup in the other thread: flubby, muddy and not a lot of fun. But this one's extreme immaculate articulation (LOL, somebody has to use that as a pickup name: the Immaculate Articulation :D) really makes it stand out as exceptional in that position. Again, it's almost like a single coil in its spanky clarity. But it has the heft of a humbucker. I'd use that pickup in my LP's neck position in a heartbeat.

That clip was just an i5 placed a cm or two off the cap seem and a cm or two off the grill.
For my crunch channel I tend to have the bass around 12 O'Clock, a light scoop in the mids, maybe 10:30-11:00 O'Clock and I'll push the highs up a little. Not much though, the amp tends to sound best with everything pretty close to midday.
There's also an SD1 going into the amp as a boost.

Interesting. I never use those stereo room mics? Maybe i should look into those a bit more. I trust your set up and ears. I also had a hunch some of those tones were the Orange sims.

What is the amplitube name for the JCM800 sim ? I went looking for one but i couldn't find one? maybe i was looking in the wrong place?

Some of the Orange amps in AT4 sound pretty good to me, but of course I have no idea if they sound like the real thing though...I can confirm the Marshall Jubilee sim sounds pretty close to my little amp, even when you engage the input clip, it drops the gain on the lead channel a hair, just like my amp...Greg told me his buddy's 100w does this too, so I'd say AT4 did a pretty good emulation of the Jubilee...

On the room mics, I use them very, very low in the guitar's overall sound, like the 2 main mics about -10, & the room mics at about -25 or so...Just enough to barely hear 'em & to notice if they're turned off (with the guitar solo'd)...I doubt if they can even be heard in a mix, but it seems to add a little fullness to the tone on it's own, so...I think it might kinda "glue" the guitars with the rest of the instruments, if that makes any sense...

It's called the Brit 8000, in the "Classic Brit Collection", but I think it's only available in AT4 dude, don't hold me to that though...I got the full shebang (upgrade from AT3) as a Christmas gift from my sister quite awhile back, so I can't remember specifics at the moment, but I do good to remember what day it is sometimes anymore...

I actually think the 800 in AT4 sucks ass myself, I know I was raving about the Jubilee sim, but I really think their JCM800 sim is terrible...Maybe that's how a real 800 sounds??? I highly doubt it, but again, I just don't care for the 800 sim in AT4...I think the older AT3 Marshall sims that have been out for years are better, but that's just me...If you're looking for a good sounding Marshall sim, try the LePou Hybrit dude...It's free, comes in a few different versions (pre-amp only, head only, + head/cab), & sounds way better to me...

Don't do much in the way of single coil bridge pickup tones... but this is a split coil bridge pickup tone.

No FX or anything, just straight into my HK>V30>i5.
