I haven't determined what that is yet. I don't think it's normal, but I can't tell what it is. It's not audio clipping, but it might be that ribbon mic overloading. Might be a tube. I just don't know yet.WhiskeyJack wrote: ↑Fri Jun 01, 2018 3:18 am
at home on my monitors. Checked the LG sound bar, the Jeep and all my ear phones. The only thing i do not hear it on is my phone.
2:04 - 2:11
Does anyone else hear it? As the notes make their way out? Is that the normal sound of break up?

Ahh!!! the ribbon mic! Maybe a preamp on your interface is working too hard before it hits the daw? Maybe?Greg_L wrote: ↑Fri Jun 01, 2018 10:06 amI haven't determined what that is yet. Also i forgot to mention the hallmark into the Deluxe 'tard is my personal fave and clear winner in the tone shootouts thus far. It's classic and just sounds right all around. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of that odd little artifact.
Re: The Tone Thread
I didn't hear it in the non-ribbon mic clips, so maybe it's the mic. I'm just not sure yet. I think it might be one of the cheapo tubes that came with the kit.WhiskeyJack wrote: ↑Fri Jun 01, 2018 1:46 pm

Re: The Tone Thread
I LOVE the intro on the 1st clip - made me want to watch Blue Velvet again.
The Hallmark & Reverb/Vibrato is a match made in heaven.
Great tones, great everything except that static stuff which you'll sort obviously.
The beast with two back works.
YAY.

Here's the Ceriatone Son of Yeti...From what I can tell, it's about the same pre-amp as the Chupacabra (it has the same "Era", "Bright 1", & "Bright 2" switches, along with the 2 gain knobs), but with 6V6 power tubes...
I wish he'd mic'd a cab up for this, but it still isn't terrible IMO...
[BBvideo=560,315]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1pNnNc7Rs8[/BBvideo]
He's using a smaller 2x12 with WGS speakers in this clip...Skip to about 5:50 for him to tweak the knobs/switches a bit to show some of the different gain-y tones this amp is capable of...I like the tones from the 5:50 spot until the end better than the rest, including the first video...
[BBvideo=560,315]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4P6NJ_1-H4[/BBvideo]
Just so you know, the SoY ($725) is about half the price of the 50w Chupacabra ($1100)...

Picked up a Blurst. This is just plugging in and going on the first day. Havent messed with it much since. And this is just one setting the whole time.
Re: The Tone Thread
Geeze, he was all high gain metal yuck in the 1stvid. the 2nd one - why did he show off his licks for 5 minutes? The subsequent tones were OK - went a bit SRV for me - LOTS of tweaking needed. The trim pot at the back - why there & why?

Re: The Tone Thread
Toward the end of the 2nd clip, it started to get better, so maybe I should've picked a different clip...lol...
It's called the "Pussy Trim", my Chupa had it (mine was on the inside of the amp, which I later moved to the outside...the newer amps have 'em on the outside now), & it can remove some of the "hair" from the sound...It was actually pretty subtle on the amp I had, but it can help to fine tune the gain structure a bit, like removing some of the fizz for example...

Never hear of that pedal before, but it sounds cool...This reminds me of Jerry Cantrell's lick on "Get Born Again"...

Interesting. I heard a lot of stuff even i liked in that little rig man. You are gonna get me gassing if you keep it up.Minerman wrote: ↑Sat Jun 02, 2018 5:52 pm Here's the Ceriatone Son of Yeti...From what I can tell, it's about the same pre-amp as the Chupacabra (it has the same "Era", "Bright 1", & "Bright 2" switches, along with the 2 gain knobs), but with 6V6 power tubes...

This is fucking cool. I would have literally no use for it really unless it had a setting that just sort of held onto those moments where it sounds like the signal really opens up and borderline sounds like it is feeding back. Very cool.
Re: The Tone Thread
That's quite cool, Liv. What's it actually supposed to do? It sounds a bit like a flanger but also a bit like a phaser/autowah type thing
Re: The Tone Thread
According to the description:
“The Blurst follows the tried-and-true modulated filter formula used by countless synthesizers: you start with a variable resonant filter — usually a lowpass filter like the one featured in this pedal — and then modulate the filter cutoff point with an LFO (low-frequency oscillator”.
I guess those used in synths react based on playing dynamics where this one is time based. So you set the interval with a knob or tap tempo.
It’s pretty fun but nothing I’d use a lot. In fact it’s not even going on my board. More of a “I think I’ll try that for this part.”

Re: The Tone Thread
That seems to be what EHX is going for these days. I feel the same about my Superego and Mel9 pedals. I rarely reach for them, but they can add some cool textures in the right situations.
I'm afraid to know what would happen if I tried to intentionally mess with my tuning like that. I'm usually surprised and pleased when I actually get a standard tuning right!

Re: The Tone Thread
RayC got me interested in a Mel9 pedal. I would likely use it here and there. Just keep watching / waiting for a respectable deal
Re: The Tone Thread
I just spent a few hours playing on one of these:

My house mate in my rental place in Bristol bought it a couple of weeks ago. Really nice bass. Super easy to play, really comfortable... I've got a bit of bass envy! He's a funk/soul player (he's really fucking good) and he has flat wounds on it which was a bit weird, but it still felt really nice. All his other basses of 5 strings and I just can't get on with them. But this one is really nice.
