Looking good! Looks like you have more room when you see these pictures. Those floor plan drawings you had with the small numbers in metrics made it appear more tiny. This should work pretty good and its looking nice

Have you noticed a difference in how a sharp hand clap resonates in there with and without the treatment? Do you have a comparison of the rooms acoustics?

Yeah - I didn't record in there with my proper gear but I did do a handclap before I switched the room around and recorded it with my phone camera. I'll do another one now and compare.

Its much nicer in here now though.

Looking good, man! Looks like a nice little recording nook. It's amazing what we can accomplish in a small space when we set our minds to it :)

Cheers, mate. I've got the layout all sorted now... unfortunately I have to move everything out again in a few of weeks as the carpet fitter is coming around.

Did a bit of recording in there yesterday and it was a pleasure.

Awesome!
awesome youtube comment of the day
Bill and Ted time traveled and brought a bass player from 1973, a drummer from 1984 and a guitar player from 1995. Now they're spreading peace all over the world 🌎

JD that looks phenomenal man. Looks really awesome. i think it would make a nice home / hideaway for anyone. And for a hoe based DIY headquarters that is a pretty top shelf little spot.

I have some questions.

1. This one could both be for greg and JD, when ya'll made those clouds, dud you squish the filling down to fit inside the frame or do you leave in it's expanded state. and just cover it with a bit if your burlap.

2. Your bass traps are only up in the corners? What made you decide to do that. Was it a a space limitation? I am sure the answer lies in this thread if i were to go back and read. But i am might just as well ask.

3. Nothing on the wall in front of you at all? or traps in those corners? Will there be eventually ?

1. in all of the frames made the filling a little bit wider so that it had to be horizontally squashed a bit to fit it in. Also, the from was 70mm in width but the insulation was actually 100mm thick so it ended up getting a bit compressed to fit in there.

2. Yeah, space limitation - you'll see there's a door there so there's not a lot else I could do. I will be treating the back of the door - just with pointy foam squares and those bookshelves are now full of books. Not ideal - but its just me making the best of the space I have.

3. Well there's another cloud right above me which isn't actually that far from the front wall - you're right though - other than pretty heavy curtain drapes there's not much in front of me

I videoed some of the work so I'll edit it together and upload at some point.

Armistice wrote: ↑Tue May 22, 2018 5:43 pm Nice work JD - now get that second screen up onto a bit of a plinth so you don't kill your neck over time looking down at it*. Always a good use for a ream of A4 paper.

*I'm assuming you're taller than 5'3" :lollers:

I hope the carpet is suitably rock'n'roll - something 70s and shag, for instance. :nyuk:
YEah - I was gonna go for leopard print!

I have the screen tilted back on a wood block now, I'm 6'

Annoying as double posts are I just wanted to stick this here as the culmination of the layout stuff.

A 6' Welshman? Hmm, direct proof that Darwin was wrong unless some Welshmen were bred for the larger caverns.
Excellent vid.

Of course I'm not a headbanger - did you expect me to be wearing eyeliner and studded wrist bands?
