Your guitar tones are night & day compared to what they used to be Jdude...IMO, getting the 2x12 & HK amp are the best decisions you've made since becoming a Tone Tard...
Your tones are killer now... :minernuggs:

The guitars are actually hi passed in the mix, probably been a bit harsh with it. I'll ease off on that.

The pickups are certainly a big part of it. Good guitar, good pickup, good amp, half decent cab.

James,
The guitars sound good but a bit more meat would suit those potatoes.
The snare sounds odd to me. I don't know if it's the tone or the timing - it stuck in my head and made it hard for me to focus on the guitars.
Cheers

I disagree with these guys. After being forced to listen to Randy Rhoads all day while running around with my buddy Chris, I think you need more grind in top end. The guitars are plenty meaty enough. They need more sizzle.

But even with that, they're 1000% better than anything you did with the Blackstar.

Ok dudes, here are some more strat clips...I fuckin' love the way this thing sounds now, it's still hard to believe...

Signal chain: Strat > Mini Jubilee > ISO Cab/Greenback > SM57

Left guitar: Split bridge
Right guitar: Split neck
Lead guitar: Neck humbucker

The amp settings are just a "general" kind of thing, I tweaked the amp a little for each guitar...The rhythm guitars' gain was on about "3"...The lead gain was on about "7", & I used a vst compressor stompbox to boost it a little...

I didn't use any eq on the guitars, but they do have effects, reverb, with 'verb/chorus/delay on the lead part...

Cheers, I actually put more treble in then took it out again! I'll be re-recording all this once I've finished writing and arranging it though so I'll try both more chuck and more sizzle.

Nice singing, Miner - you kinda sound black and dead.

You hit a major chord where I think there should be a minor at 15s in split neck pickup.
There's a slightly fizzy, crunch on this too. Greg will know how to describe it - its kinda buzzy.
I like this tone though.

The split bridge sounds a little odd to me, almost like it was really trebly but you've taken loads of top of it to make it less harsh, but now it just sounds thin.

I think the lead tone is excellent.

 Thanks Jdude, this is one of the bunch of covers I'm working on...I'll eventually replace those with my vocals...

I already know I'm not playing this right dude, but you're the last guy I thought would know anything about this kind of music...I thought you liked that pointy-guitar kind of music... :smiles:

The "buzzy" sound, if you're referring to what I think you are, is part of the guitar's tone dude, it can't be dialed out...

I didn't use any eq on the guitars, but the "mastering" preset I used might've added something to 'em all, then when I solo'd each one they sounded different because of that...

After listening to this again, I may re-track one of the rhythm guitars with the SG or LP to make 'em a bit different...

Thanks again dude...

Here's a bit more of my metal tone. Slightly different to the other one, I think this is both a little less treble and a little more scooped.
I think this is actually too scooped and too dark now, what you reckon?

No this is miced up as was the last one. I think I've over scooped it and it's not bright enough. Just experimenting with tones as I go through arranging the song.
