Ok dude, I was thinking of putting a little slap delay on those parts, & I've got all kinds of fx, so we've got some options...It's not just my call Mutt, these clips go on your website, so they need your approval too...

On the high end of the Folsom part, I think it is part of the sound...We can always tame it if need be because we have lots of options, but again, these need your approval too man...

Do you want the individual clips dry, or with whatever fx are in the little mix??? Lemme know dude...

Thanks again everybody... :minernuggs:

One thing I want to do is get real life examples and sound clips on the site. Many other pickup suppliers post up heavily managed and processed clips that are not really representative of the pup... I'm lucky, I have you guys. real people with normal gear doing great stuff with them so I want to showcase that. Give people a real expectation and not some brand oversell or over promise. Hope fully it may also drive some new blood here, who knows. So....

What would really work for me would be a final or decent mix with the pup.. and also the dry tracks so people can hear what the pup sounds like and also how that works in the mix. Take a look at the G90 and how gerg has given me stuff. Thats kind of perfect..

G90......

He posted the mix and also sent me the dry guitar parts exactly as he tracked em with a few details on chain and gear..

Make sense?

Yes sir Mutt, I've listened to all the clips on your new site & just wanted to confirm the isolated, dry guitar clips, along with a mix clip(s)...

I'm working on it right now dude...

Nice one fella, just make sure you are feeling fully recovered before you blast your ears off...:)

Incidentally, it would be really good if you have the dry clips of the clip of the Floyd thing. That was stella...

My thoughts exactly.
What it turned out to be is the open A string. Now the piece is played by palm muting the low E and hitting it with a pick and then twonking the G & B strings with my fingers, so at some points, depending on exactly where the palm of my hand is, that A string is open to resonate sympathetically - not much because of all that's going on it gets muted regularly - but that slight resonating of the string appears to be being turned into a harmonic by the pickup.

In the end I got sick of trying to mute the A completely as well, and picked up another guitar and did the recording with that, so not sure if the LP has developed a pickup problem. Be really uber annoyed if it has. I've played that piece on 3 guitars and it's the only one doing it.
Some guitars are more sensitive to sympathetic vibration and harmonics than other. It has to do with how easily string energy is reflected back down the string from the fixed points. Its more common on heavier denser builds because as a rule they will reflect more of the energy back down the string and that translates as the higher partials in the harmonic series. There isnt much you can do other than muting or eq'ing. Its particular to each guitar. You can try dropping the pickup poles a bit or the lower the whole pickup. That would make it less sensitive but thats a loss vs gain thing as well....

I've posted this & a bunch of other tones in Mutt's website thread, but I wanna know what you guys think of this particular tone...

The main idea for a low-output p'up was to get me a little closer to Malcolm Young's tone...What I didn't expect was the split coil sounds to be so good, so much so that I'd almost forgot my original intention with these p'ups...The split coil tones are killer, instant SRV/Hendrix/bluesy strat sounds...

I've already got an Angus-y tone I'm happy with using the SG, so I thought a different guitar with different p'ups might get me a little closer...

I'm not trying to copy his exact tone, it's impossible for me, I just want "ballpark" that's a bit different & distinguishable from my SG...

Thanks mutt - that makes sense. It's unusual to be playing around an unmuted A string in this fashion, but that's just the way the riff is - so I'm hoping that it's just an reaction to the particular amp patch - and I can see how if it's just the guitar doing what the guitar does, that I wouldn't have noticed it before. I'll investigate during the week when I have some time.
There is also the physical fact that every solid thing has a fundamental resonance. It could just be that your guitar has that around 440hz or a multiple thereof.. That would be rare but not unknown. The only way to change that would be to add or remove mass or shift the pitch. Obviously option one would be a proper PITA so the best way to test it would be to tune up or down a half step and see if it is still there. If so then it is likely something more complex and likely linked to what I first suggested..

Today is my tone thread day and let me just say Miners MuttPupps sound fantastic. I have gone back and listened to a bunch of them and they all sound great. It's probably safe to say that they were also pretty superbly engineered too. Had a read through all miners dreaming and designing phases with mutt and while i was shaking my head through most of wtf'ing i am pretty impressed ya'll dreamed that up. bravo guys.

Miner i can't pick a clear front runner winner of what arrangement i like the most that you got going on. The very first floyd one you put up sounded amazing. I quite liked that. I especially like the Folsom cover and the last most recent AC/DC ball park tone. I think those two could both sit nicely in any tune either together or stuck into any song really.

Stoked for you and Mutt. What a great exercise. :like: :like:

I think it's good, but if you're specifically going for more of a Malcolm sound, I think you need to clean it up a little.

Leave the feedback in, mate! I'd love your music to sound a bit wilder and more aggressive.

My lanky Alien Facehugger fingers trip over eachother when trying to play lead on shorter scale guitars.
Listening to it this morning I'm not sure I'll get away with it - it's not particularly musical feedback. Weird. Left ear, in the verses.

I am fairly certain that is a string harmonic / resonation. I hear that so much in my own tracks due to the upside down thing. some times the e and b strings while they may not be played in the strum of a chord or whatever i am doing they will be vibrating or my plam or fingers will be making some form of contact will leave artifacts in my playing. Undertones if you will. At times they sound alot like what i am hearing here and other times it's just an undertone of barely vibrating string.

And it could be what bubba said too. It also sounds a lot like that.

Overall I think it sounds ok man. I'd have to hear it in mix of some sort with everything else but it might be passable.

Thats pretty tight JD.. Very compact but still with good separation. You could even go with a bit more bottom end and a fatter snare and it would be totly uk metalz. Those were the two thing them boys went for back in the day.... You rock man.. :like:
