That cab emulation has a really big bump in the low end. Try cutting 63hz,80hz,100hz,125hz about 10db each. That should eliminate the nasty bump and give you your presence back without having to boost the high mids.
Another toy that helped destroy the elder race of man..forget about your silly whim it doesn't fit the plan.

Cheers Ocnor. Will try all of this, you don't post often but when you do it's normally good ideas.

Armistice wrote: ↑Mon Mar 26, 2018 5:53 am I've had a listen to a fair few of them - and there's little I don't like JD - I'm not a tone aficionado to the extent the others are so I'm not going to comment individually. So long as you're happy with it, money well spent!
Cheers, Armistice. A comment from someone who's not into the detail saying "sounds fine to me" is also pretty useful as at least you know you're in the right sort of area then and you're working on detail. Its like Greg giving me detail tips on a mix is great, but I also need to have a mate of mine who's into music or my mrs also say "that sounds fairly pro to me". Get mixes past the layman test before I waste yours, Bubba's or Greg's time with the details!

I downloaded the last couple and listened to them on my work headphones this morning and I'm still happy with them so there's that.
I should get chance to work on some more miked up versions over the Easter weekend, hopefully that will take out that little bit of scratchiness. I've actually already done a full mix of one of my old songs (sans vox) with the cab emulation and I'm really happy with it. I'm going to continue to work with it though as its going to be a really useful tool for me.

Guys, can you have a quick listen to this 20s mix clip - I think this sounds pretty good and I hope to get a lot done with these tones over this weekend.

Can you have a listen and see if you think I can improve this in any major way.

Yep, sounds good. Absolutely no mush, plenty of texture and grit. I think you've cracked it.

Doesn't sound bad to me dude, might let a little more of the clip play to have some open power chords or something for me to hear the tones a bit better than just chugging, but it again, sounds ok to me...

I think it's mostly good, but there seems to be a giant black hole of missing midrange in that little submix with the bass and guitar interplay. Something weird is happening. I think both the guitars and bass need more mids.

Still trying to dial the Mini Jubilee & ISO cab in...I really like the G12H speaker, I know a lot of folks compare it to a V30, & while it's similar, I think it has a lot of Greenback character in it when it's pushed a little...Correct me if I'm wrong, but ain't this speaker supposed to be a Greenback/Blackback sorta re-issue??? Whatever it is, I like it with the Mini Jubilee, it just takes some dialing in...I think this is a little better than the scooped tones I've been throwin' up here...

The bass knob is pretty damn important on this little Jubilee, I kept trying to just dime the bass, compensating for the ISO cab, but I think that was part of my problem with the scooped sound...Hopefully, I've gained a little ground here...

I've went back to a single mic until I can get this sorted a little better...

There is reverb on the guitars, & I slapped a "mastering" preset on the master track, but didn't do anything else to the guitars...

Ampsim for the bass (obviously), & SD3 for the drums...

SG > 2525H > G12H > SM57

2525H Mini Jubilee:
  • 20w mode
    Presence: 5
    Bass: 8
    Mid: 6.5
    Treble: 5
    Master Output: 7
    Lead Master: 7
    Input Gain: 4
Lemme know what you guys think...

That's not bad at all miner. Try it with the bass rolled back. Let the mids shine more.

Thanks man, I'm slowly getting my head around this little Marshall & the ISO cab...I finally just started completely over with amp settings & mic placement...This is a good little amp, I just have to remember it's good/weak points, along with the ISO cab...

In the next few days I'm gonna start the daunting task of re-loading my desktop pc...It's way past due, & I'm gonna leave a bunch of shit out this time around...The only thing really I dread is the fake drum re-install...I've decided to go with only Toontrack/Superior 3 this time, there won't be any mix/match/mish-mash shit this time, which will simplify things...The complete install for SD3 is like 240GB on it's own... :eep: I won't be installing all of it, but it'll still take a while...

Wish me luck... :lollers:

Cheers Guys,

I'm gonna run with it for now and see how I get on. Miner, the open chords and more ring stuff sounds great - I'm happy with that, I was just trying to work on a weird resonant build up I was getting on the chugged stuff.

Greg, I think I know what you mean with the weird missing thing, while I can't feel it in this clip I've noticed it in others where it appears to be more apparent. I've got a feeling that its a product of my double tracking using the exact same guitar and settings so there's no difference at all between what's hard-panned left and right. I'm gonna try some double tracking using the PRS this morning and see what I get.

MIner - this isn't playing for me? The track is running but it appears to be muted. I've had some weird soundcard issues but everything seems to be working OK at the moment. I'll try on my work laptop in a couple of hours.

Got it working now, Miner. I think it sounds pretty excellent really. Like Greg said, bass might be a little high, but I probably wouldn't have noticed if Greg hadn't mentioned it first.

To my ears mate the guitar is all attack and no decay, by that I am talking acoustically and that translates as a little "boxy". There isnt much richness ringing through in the lower and mid range. Its there but those frequencies are lacking depth.. Just my :twocents: , it maybe that I just need to hear the clip develop through a few other changes like miner suggested..

I think that some of that resonant build up is caused by the bass guitar. Try re-eqing the bass first.
