Ray, besides the tuning/intonation thing, it doesn't sound that bad. It seems that you maybe have a sound in your head that you want to achieve with this setup, and it just won't.
You could be right Greg.
I think I wanted the new guitar to be absolutely the resolution of all issues.
It's a bit harsh but I've also worked out how to EQ that away.
Which I didn't do with the sample I uploaded as I wanted it to be heard as it arrived from the mic.
I'm more inclined to stick with the single coil guitar and replace the Mustang track with a new one from the Bruno.
Interestingly I used an auto double track plug on the single coil this arvo when I was banging my head against the wall - original on one side & the ADT generated one on the other - and it sounded REALLY good.
I'll move on now and start a new song with the new guitar once it's been set up properly.
Thanks.
Ray: Your clip sounds pretty good to me dude, it may be a little brittle/bright in the upper mids/high end, but to me, it fits the style of music really well, & is nothing to worry about at all...I actually think this is the best tone I've heard you post dude...Well done man...As far as the bright thing, a simple eq cut would take care of it...
Again, good job dude...

New tone from me - been messing about with a few pedals. Neverused the OCD as a clean boost - I always used it as "amp in a box" over the clean channel and when the level is turned up it just gets very loud in the room.
Anyway I just use the OCD over the amp which already had my usual level of gain on it but with the level on teh OCD maxed out and the drive on zero and got this:
OCD Boost 57 omly.mp3
OCD Boost.mp3
The first one is with the SM57 only and the 2nd one is with a little bit of condenser blended in.
Its only a tiny bit louder than when I use the SD1 for a clean boost on the drive channel, but it gives a slightly scoopier but also brighter sound than the SD1.
On the clean channel its much, much louder than the SD1! This must be something to do with the headroom on my clean channel but I don't know really.

Not bad Jdude, to me it needs some meat/chunk & it's pretty bright, but not terrible...

I think they both sound pretty decent. The 57 only is a little thin, but the one with the condenser added is a tiny bit woofy, so I think if you split the difference you might be on to something.

Cheers. I was pretty surprised by how they sounded. Dunno exactly why the volume jump is so much bigger on the clean channel.
Those clips obviously have a bit too much gain but I think I'll try it with lower gain for my next song.
A lot of amp-in-a-box pedals and distortion pedals do that. I'm not exactly sure why, they just do. Overdrives and clean boosts do it too, but not as much as some pedals that contain all of their tone in the pedal. I think it may be because on a clean channel, the preamp tubes aren't running at full capacity, so any extra boost brings them up to full operating range and they pass on more signal to the power stage. Maybe.
I put my Mustang in for a "service" yesterday - could be up to a week due to them being busy. Sheesh.
I also put my resonator in to get it sorted professionally - made sense since I was going to the guitar store. 30 + kms to get there though. It's a decent shop and also the nearest to me.
Les Paul into an Orange. Love the sound of the solo that starts a few seconds after where I have the clip cued up:[BBvideo=560,315]https://youtu.be/U_7avGbMaBM?t=2m6s[/BBvideo]

I like how he turns his guitar up right before the lead. Sounds good. Hate the song though.
It's the most boring song. Almost as bad as Paul Rogers' pants. But that was then. That's why I cued it up close to the solo. I just love that sound. It's not as dark as I'd expect an Orange to sound. If I didn't actually see the amp, I'd think he's going through a Marshall with my less than fine tuned ears for this kind of thing. The song is painful to me.
Shit. I just clicked on the tune, It was supposed to start at about 2 minutes in, but it starts at the beginning. We have to click the link, not the video itself.

I just fast forwarded till I found the solo. It does sound Orangey to me. In a blind test I probably wouldn't know, but there are some tell-tale Orange sounds in there. The emphasis on dry punchy lower mids is a very Orange thing compared to Marshall's high mid grind.
I played a Rockerverb 100 last weekend and it sounded pretty much just like that video. Great amp.
If you click the link rather than the clip it goes to the cued spot. Great tone and, yes, one of their least interesting songs. they did some fabulous stuff but not this one. I've a few Free/Kossoff/Back Street Crawler LPs/CDs mainly because of his sound but there are some cool tracks on
[BBvideo=560,315]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGWITnoQCFs[/BBvideo] his 1st solo LP.

I thought he died while he was still in FREE. I had no idea he had a solo career. I'll check that out later.
Free had reformed and fallen apart again. At his death he was on an air plane traveling with members of his new band Back Street Crawler. They continued without him - I have one by them without him but it's only so so.
I was trying out each of my pedals today with a view to putting away or selling those that don't have any use for me. Things like the Behringer VTone GDI21 which does a fairly good job emulating Tweed, Bluesbreaker Marshall and Mesa (that one has no interest for me at all) amps & the 3 mic position selections do a reasonable job but can't be disabled when playing into an amp. I don't have any use for the Modded and HiGain switches either because I just don't play those sorts of songs/tones.
The ACTone from Joyo isn't bad at getting an almost Ricky jangle when a compressor is used in front of it so that's staying.
The Behri Vtone BDI21 is a keeper as described in the review I did.
Etc etc.
While I was at it I decided to try the little Behringer Mic100 preamp with my guitar as a pre/effect before my amp. It wasn't too bad at all. Cranked, but not dimed, gain & output did get some pleasant breakup into my little amp which was set pretty clean. I'll keep that too. Now, it's probably a scam unit with the tube just adding dirt/noise but it sounded OK.
Less a scam than the Presonus BlueTube stereo pre I have that actually has a sep. dial to regulate the valve/tube noise added - it's called drive and is less pleasant than the Behri though clean & driveless it does OK as a mic pre.

The search for tone as a reductive process.
That's a good thing Ray. Paring down stuff you don't need would probably benefit all of us.
But your search for tone is a simple one. It's hiding in plain sight.

Amplitube has a lot of different Orange sims (Rockverb, Tiny Terror, and many others). They have a cool sound, but they're all dark. A lot darker than what I hear in that FREE video.
