They are pretty much on par with some of the Redwirez IRs that I have. I think that my IR is so bright because it picked up some of the room sound. Next time I'll isolate the cab and wear earplugs.

Re: The Tone Thread
How long are your IRs? I've read, and found for myself, that the shorter they are while still being viable, the better. I think I've trimmed some of mine down to around 25ms or something like that. Longer times can let in more weird artifacts or some shit like that. I made some that have sort of a phasey sound because they're too long. I trimmed the ends down and they got way better.

Re: The Tone Thread
I did try trimming it down but not that short. I think the original recording of the sine wave takes about 4 seconds. When you trim it down you are cutting the high end off. I'll have to revisit that and see how much can be chopped off without killing the tone.Greg_L wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2020 7:05 pmHow long are your IRs? The trimming takes place on the impulse itself, not the source wav.ocnor wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2020 7:19 pm

I think the way I did it was to bring the impulse into the DAW and look at it. It's a little blip and nothing else. I think it was like one second long, maybe. I just cut some of the empty end off and bounced it back out. Maybe this is all wrong, but it worked great for me. It got rid of the weirdness.

Re: The Tone Thread
That's how I did it as well. I also opened it in Audacity and zoomed waaay in until it looked like a teeny tiny sine wave with a bunch of dots. Then I trimmed it at various points to see if it made a difference. Each IR was slightly different but not enough to worry about.Greg_L wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2020 7:27 pmThe trimming takes place on the impulse itself, not the source wav.ocnor wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2020 7:19 pm

Re: The Tone Thread
Ok I went back and re-trimmed the IR that I made. I think that it sounds a bit better. Since Greg was kind enough to send me some of his IRs I thought that I would do comparison clips. I also used a Redwirez IR that was made with an SM57 and the same G12H30-55HZ speaker that I used. I got the levels close as possible and added a hint of reverb. Then I normalized each them to -1db.

Re: The Tone Thread
Sounds great. Your IR does seem to sound better. Actually, the worst sounding one IMO is the redwirez IR. We did it better!ocnor wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2020 12:04 am Ok I went back and re-trimmed the IR that I made. I think that it sounds a bit better. Re: The Tone Thread
I agree the redwirez is pretty disappointing sounding. It was even more lifeless without the reverb. It may sound better with some eq and compression, but I wanted to do a comparison of raw files.

That redwirez one is a vomitfest. gross.
Ocnor i really like the ocnor one. sounds really really good. A bit more verb than i think i'd add onto it but it still sounds really good dude!!! Good job.

Re: The Tone Thread
Quick tone test #1 with the spring reverb kit build. The reverb unit goes between the guitar and the amp, like a pedal.
Mosrite Ventures MKI
Weber 5G15 Reverb
Deluxe Reverb kit build - Normal Channel
Vol - 4
Treb - 5
Bass - 4
Marshall 1960B 4x12 - Celestion Vintage 30
AT4047 slightly off center, about 6" off grill
No FX or EQ in DAW
Not much direction to this, just fiddling the knobs and making noise, mostly. First real sound test with the reverb unit.

Re: The Tone Thread
Greg_L that rig sounds legit man!!!!! Holy smokes. Outstanding. yea, i am sitting here wracking my noggin on how to translate what i am hearing but the only word that comes to mind is that it just sounds authentic and is giving me the urge to run home and play the few surfy tunes i know. Ha!
No where to go but up from here if that is where you are going with it. Nothing wrong with any of those sounds i heard. Get's a bit of a shine on it some places but i can obly assume you are just mucking with buttons and knobs figuring shit out.

Re: The Tone Thread
Ha thanks man. Yeah, just twisting dials. It's got a friggin ton of range. I'm really surprised at how transparent it is when off, and how freaking insane it can get if you dime the controls. The tone cut works great. Dark reverb, bright reverb, somewhere in between, no problem. It's a very cool little piece of gear.WhiskeyJack wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 8:27 pm @Greg_L that rig sounds legit man!!!!! Holy smokes. Re: The Tone Thread
Are you getting a new pedal board to put it on? Ace tones - I nearly fetched my brolly the drips were so wet.
Cheers

That sounds excellent. Very drippy and authentic indeed.
Re: The Tone Thread
It just sits on the floor, so the world is my pedalboard.
Thanks dude. Yeah I think it came out great! It'll get a full band practice test tonight. Fingers crossed.

Re: The Tone Thread
Greg what kind of tubes did you load into it? Hopefully not lame-ass JJs. That would be like putting bicycle tires on a muscle car.

Re: The Tone Thread
Whatever chinese shit came with the kit.
One 12AT7, one 12AX7, one 6V6.
I think we've been over this before - I don't give a single fuck about tube brands or anything. A tube that works is a good tube.
