Ok i will explore that thanks!!!

I tried it but wayyyy to dry for my liking. I need a hint of space around the snare and vocals and stuff. I will try another reverb tonight.

vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2019 11:41 am Does it not have any knobs to adjust it?
Do you have it at a weird place in the chain where too much stuff goes through?
I think this one has way too many knobs for me. And i probably have something dumb on it set to something stupid. I played with all the knobs last night but heard little difference through my cans as i tweaked each one. but as soon is disarmed the reverb the mix came back to life. I may here more of a difference through the monitors. Everyone was in bed at that hour.

It is possible i have too much stuff going through it? I have my kick, snare, overheads, vocals, back up vocals and guitar leads all going through the same reverb send. IS that too much ?

That is a lot to be going through a verb. Especially the OHs I'd think.

When you say "a lot" what do you mean ? I thought that was sort of a common practice. Have one reverb to act as the room? Do you guys use multiple different reverbs for differnt thing i have listed as going through just one reverb ?

I send everything through one reverb maybe 25% of the time. I don't do it often, but it does happen from time to time. I don't do anything as a matter of course. For me every mix is it's own thing. Even if all my shit sounds generally the same, there's always something different going on.

If you do send everything to one reverb, that's fine, but you have to really watch how it's mixed back in. Your pre/post fader settings are important. You might not want the overheads in there at all if they already sound "roomy". You'll probably want the snare to hit the reverb harder than the kick. Maybe don't send the bass at all. Bass frequencies already kind of fill in space on their own. You have to really tailor what and how much goes through the single reverb or it can get really messy.

Generally the only instrument I have getting any verb are vocals. Everything else gets enough noise from the room. (Including EZD, which has "room" sliders)

Hey WhiskeyJack

You have a Focusrite, did that not come with the Softube bundle? In that bundle is this reverb plugin. It has only 4 knobs and 1 switch on it. I have used it for many recordings and get good sounds.

I will also sometimes put reverb on the groups but seperately. Like make a bus for all the drums and add verb to that, same with background vox. Maybe that would help even things out.

Hmmm. ok. All of this is very confusing. RE: More than one reverb in a mix. I had been told once that you should only use one and think of it as your room. Adding more verbs to different parts of the mix effectively just creates more rooms with in a room and thats not quite how it would translate at all if you were watching the piece live.

Now to be fair while i do find the concept confusing at this point without trying it everyone in here has brilliant sounding mixes and if that's how you are doing it than i will definitely give a try but sadly my stupid peabrain is going to struggle with pairing up multiple reverbs in a believe able way.

I need to just go with the if it sounds good it is good. Mantra.

I think i did download it but i am not sure i ever installed it. I will have a look. tonight thanks MT.

I don't normally have more than one reverb in a mix unless its like some "special effect" type bit on a particular thing.

Shan, you've got reverb impulses haven't you?

Yeah you do need to make an iLok acct. Its free, just keeps you from putting it on more than two computers I think.

Yes that's going to affect how and when your track hits the reverb.

So Tapatalk just wanted me to download some games if I tried to play the file lmao.

I got Puffin to work again. It sounds good. I really have no comments. I just like the tone of everything.

Ok dickweeds. Here we go. Have a peek and get back to me.

Once i get a final mix done here i'll post that mix and blurb of what this tune is and why i picked it. Apologies for the "hatebreeders-esque" repetitiveness but i also took a few arrangement liberties to make it a bit less repetitive.

Shan, I reckon this sounds great.
The lead vocal is possible a bit loud and dry - so its right in my face.
The little lead licks are a bit quiet too.

I love it! That is really cool. All of the elements sound really good to me. I particularly like your guitar tones and vocal style. You did a nice job on the drums.

My only real mix critique is with the evenness of the vocals. The quieter verse bits get a little buried. When you get loud it's fine. I think a little compression tweak on the vocal track would get it evened out better. Other than that, it's really solid and rockin.

This is really good man. Nice job. I agree with Greg that tthe softer vocals at the beginning if the verses need to come up, but I love the vocal style and sound. I also agree with James that the little guitar fills should come up as well. The main guitar solo rocks. :metal: :punk:

Thanks very much dudes. Apologies for the mega long wait but i think i'm there.

I will have a go at fixing the vocals i heard it too this morning. I also noticed in the quieter parts of the main vocals that they lose a bit of fullness. like they kind of get a bit mid scooped? But i am almost positive that is my stupid mic technique. I will try and fix it. Do the loud parts of that vocal performance almost sound more saturated than the quiter parts. I thought i was hearing that but i have actively listened to it so much i might be hearing things. Also there is supposed to be a gang vocal saying "maybe tomorrow" and it's barely audible. not sure wtf that is all about.

Greg_L I dropped the reverb entirely on the kit and tried a new one and it only really has the snare and the floor tom thing in it. I guess i did have the kick drum going through the old reverb so it kind of screwed up. But in comparing this mix to previous ones i find the drums are bit more 3D and less muddled. I am really happy with how it came together eventually.

You know me, I like dry drums. Or, dry-ish. I think that sounds better for faster stuff. Reverb on drums just mucks shit up at a certain point. A snare crack with some reverb sounds good, but the kick with too much reverb is a problem on fast stuff. Same with low end. Everyone likes a big fat beefy kick drum sound. But when you start going fast, all the kick drum low end can be a problem. Add reverb to all that rapid-fire low end and you have a mess.
