To be fair, in your defense, there is not a "heavy tone" out there that I'm not gonna think is gross.

Yeah - I realise that. Was just a high-gain tone that I wouldn't normally go for and are rarely posted on here so I thought I'd post it up anyway.
Re: The Tone Thread
Here's the version of that tone in a mix.
There's a bunch more lead stuff to add on this yet, but I think it sounds appropriately heavy anyway.

Re: The Tone Thread
I think that sounds great Jdude...The guitar is a bit fizzy on it's own, but it sits great in the mix...
Once again, I gotta say the H & K amp, combined with the 2x12 are exactly what you needed...

Cheers, Miner. I thought a similar thing actually.
Now I'm using the "lead" channel for rhythm I need to find even more lead for the lead that's going to go over this!
Re: The Tone Thread
Run a boost pedal through it (but keep a check on overall gain) to give it a slightly different character...

I am still nonplussed at your continual surprise at my adverse reaction to stuff that I detest.
I really hate metal. Really, really hate it. I cannot dispassionately give an aesthetic appreciation of a metal tone because the subject irks me beyond reason.
Likewise, overthinking music scales.
I trust that we may eventually reach a mutual understanding wherein I don't have to keep repeating this litany until the heat-death of the Universe supervenes.
Love ya.
Mean it.

Well, Greg. You've probably already read that I regret my outburst the other day. We're adults, we have bad days, shit gets said for whatever reason, we move on.
Many, many things are grinding me down daily, too many things to articulate on here. It's best that I stay out of shite threads and concentrate on what we're all here for.

I've said for years now that JD is a hair metal shredder in the closet. He just is't ready to admit it yet.

Ok, here's the first clip(s) with the Mini JCM 800...I purposely put everything on "5" so Greg can run these through his JCM 800 to see if my little amp cuts it or not...So far, I'm very impressed with this thing, I think it sounds great...These clips could be dialed in a lot better, but again, I put everything on "5" for a comparison...
Greg suggested using the send from the fx loop, but I couldn't get a signal into my daw...I might've needed to plug a cable into the return to "complete" the circuit, so I'll mess with that some more later...This amp does have a di out, so I used that instead...I also took a line level from the attenuator just for comparison...
I'll make some more clips tomorrow with the amp dialed in a little better...
Signal Chain: Strat HB bridge > Mini JCM 800 > G12H > SM57
Mini 800 DI output using Greg's G12H>i5 center on grill impulse
Attenuator output using Greg's G12H>i5 center on grill impulse
20w mode
Just so you guys know, the last 3 clips will sound terrible, they're raw guitar/amp di's...For some reason, the forum wouldn't accept WAV files (for Greg to re-amp with), so I used mp3's....It should be good enough though...

Re: The Tone Thread
It sounds about right. I think the tone is there. It sounds "held back" though, if that makes any sense. Like it's subdued. It's not barking and snarling like I think it should. But it could just be how you played it. That riff is kind of laid back. It also seems like maybe it has more gain at "5" than the big ones do. I don't think my 2203 or 2204 with the gain on 5 sound that gainy. That doesn't mean anything, it could just be the volume pot taper. Who knows. But we'll see soon enough.Minerman wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2019 9:18 pm Ok, here's the first clip(s) with the Mini JCM 800...I purposely put everything on "5" so Greg can run these through his JCM 800 to see if my little amp cuts it or not...So far, I'm very impressed with this thing, I think it sounds great...These clips could be dialed in a lot better, but again, I put everything on "5" for a comparison...

Where'd you put the mic on your G12H/57 clip? I'll try to duplicate that the best I can.

That riff sucks man, so just say it...lol...I just honestly couldn't think of anything to play, so that's what I ended up with...I have played through 2203 a few times, but that was around 1988, but from what I remember that amp didn't have as much gain...That could've been a million different things, plus it could just be I don't remember...
Just to be honest, I like the fact this little amp has that much gain, I can use it without a boost & still get into hair metal territory...I've said it before, but this little thing is loud as fuck man, "5" on the volume knob reminded me of how loud the DSL100H I had was...Not quite, but in the ballpark anyway...
Right out of the gate, this amp is just way different than the Mini Jubilee...The sound is just great IMO, & it feels very different, in a good way...I think I made a good decision buying this thing, it's hard to explain, but it's just really good IMO...I know I'm going on & on about this amp, but I haven't been this excited about a piece of gear since the first time I plugged into the first Chupacabra...I totally wasn't expecting what it's turned out to be...
On the mic placement, it was basically where the cap meets the cone dude, maybe moved toward the edge a smidge so it wouldn't be as bright/fizzy...
Whenever you get around to making your clips, shoot me the guitar di so I can re-amp it & we'll take it from there...
I've got a doctor's appointment today, & that place is excruciatingly slow, so I have no idea what time I'll be home, but as soon as I get back, I'll start on some more clips...
And yes, I'm fucking excited & stoked with this thing man, so far it's turned out to be way better than I'd expected...

Re: The Tone Thread
I think that sounds pretty good miner for a "everything on 5" starting point. You could dial that in a bit more but it really already sounds there or thereabouts. The non-attenuated DI out into one of Greg's impulses does sound a lot like one of Greg's tones.
Would be nice to hear you playing something less restrained through it.
