I think I watched this one a while back - lots of addition in the box beyond mic blending.
Nah, I was wrong - this is new & is a promo for a mic & a double clip.

I stopped watching when he said having two stands is kind of pain. I got not time for that sort of stuff. Mankind has traveled to the moon and also managed to put cheese into an aerosol can for our enjoyment. Any guitarist can manage two mic stands in front of a cab.

Right? Two mic stands is a hassle? Miking drums must blow his pitiful fucking mind then. Beato is such a tool. These fucking youtube channel celebrities must be stopped.

Sorry, you can't use your $1200 Royer mic because two stands are a hassle. STFU.

Beleive it or not my very first ever "micstand" for a cabinet was taking a radio shack mic taping it to a sturdy encyclopedia slightly opend to ensure it would not fall over, all stood atop a milk crate.

Dont talk to me about the hassles of two mic stands. :lollers: :lollers:

If that dumbshit doofus Beato would use the boom arms of those mic stands, the bases won't touch.

I drew a pic for him.

Greg_L I feel very strongly that needs to be sent to him in reference to his dumb comment.

I think rayc nailed it. That video is likely nothing more than a long winded sales pitch. Sorry miner i know you were just trying to help and all but that guy just rubbed me the wrong way. Like so much so i realllly want one of us to make a video showing him it really isnt that big of a deal.

It was like a sales pitch. The R121 is no doubt a wonderful mic, and it's also very cost prohibitive for damn near anyone, and now you gotta buy a special mic clip to go with it so the "mic stand bases don't touch"? He just invented a problem that doesn't exist so he could pimp a product that's unnecessary. It's fucking offensive how stupid that is...and how stupid he thinks we are.

I commented on the vid...
"In terms of most home recordists this is a solution in search of a problem. I'll consider the boutique mic clip when I can consider spending THAT much money on a ribbon mic for guitar cabs. A lateral thinking engineer or home recordist would probably set two mics, one each, on boom stands and bring them in from either side thus using what they have at hand and solving the problem at minimal expense and effort. I doubt all professional engineers/producers in Nashville use a clip that isn't available. It's also a bit of a scam when the currently available clip can't be bought without spending extra money on a microphone that it is "bundled" with."

I didn't mean to stir up so much shit dudes, I was just pointing out this is a pretty good visual aid to using 2 mics on a guitar cab...

I do gotta agree this does seem like a sales pitch (for both the super expensive Royer mic & the mic clip), & he is a dumb fuck for complaining about using 2 mic stands...

Another thing I thought was "off" was the phase on the 2nd set of clips...On the first, it sounded about right when he flipped the phase, about all you hear is some fizz, which is what's being canceled...But, on the 2nd clip, it wasn't that way at all...Any thoughts???

All that said, is he correct saying the diaphragm for the '57 is like 1/2 inch from the end??? I knew it was not all the way against the screen/end, but didn't know it was that far back...

Another question, is the i5's diaphragm in a similar place or what???

BTW, Wilkinson Audio is where I first heard about the 2 mic clip thingie, & is probably where I'd buy one...

Yeah those Wilkinson clips are cool and pretty affordable.

In my experience with ribbon mics, flipping the phase doesn't tell you too much since ribbons are figure-8 anyway.

And yeah the capsule is about halfway under the spinny cap on a 57. About the same on an i5.

I usually do mine about like this:
57i5.jpg
I drew those red lines to show that if you line the i5 grill halfway point with the 57's grill halfway point, they're pretty much in phase, but the i5's end will be a hair closer to the source than the 57. This works for me and it's in pretty much perfect phase.

Not sure about shipping, but most of those clips are about the same price, but I'd still buy from Wilkinson just because Beatoff acts like a tool...I'm sure he's rubbed elbows with famous people & all, but wtf has he ever done??? What gives him so much credibility really??? Seriously, I'd never even heard of him until a few months ago...
But, whatever, I can't sit through most of his videos, so it don't matter to 'ol Miner... :chillin

Thanks for the pic, makes sense after looking at it, & it also shows how incredibly lazy I am... :lollers2:

I really don't think rayc is worried about getting blocked by Beatoff...Now a total YT ban might bother him, but not just from that one channel...

While I'm on a roll, does anyone know if there is any extra fees/taxes/whatever involved when buying from Thomann??? The prices on most of their stuff is quite a bit cheaper than the usual Sweetwater/Zzounds/etc...In particular, they have 2x12's loaded with real V30's for less than the price of the speakers alone...Anyone got any info??? Might be a good deal on a 2x12, but I don't wanna get slapped with any extra $$$ I wouldn't see comin'...

I really don't know what his claim to fame is. Maybe he made some great album in the past, or recently. No idea. Doesn't really matter to me. Youtube has turned weirdos into celebrities. He has a nice channel and nice video skills. That might be all you need?

If I had half a brain and video equipment maybe I could be a youtube star too. :lollers2:

Lol. The capsule's location only matters when you're using multiple mics. And even then it only matters so you can get mics in phase. You could also just get them close and then zoom way in on the tracks and slide one of them a few milliseconds to line them up. I've done that a million times. It doesn't matter how you get them in phase, just get them in phase.

We're not part of the Euro-bloc, so we may have some customs fees or something. And of course shipping. No idea.

I think I just can't see why people get pissed off at YouTube people.
If I don't like them I just don't watch - I don't let them irritate me.

Sure, he's probably selling something, many people are. You don't have to buy it.

I also don't have a problem with weirdo internet people becoming minor celebrities - there's no reason for plastic cunts from Holywood to have a monopoly on that. I saw this channel the other day about swords (probably after clicking on a Regdar video), this guy had loads of subscribers and was some sort of minor celebrity among people who use 12 sided dice. Now I've learned a bit about medieval broadswords I don't think I'll click again, but its cool that he's got an audience.

They turn the mediocre into the exceptional and that lowers the bar across the board.

There was a video a while back where several youtube guitar gurus got together and played a Plexi halfstack "cranked". They were in awe. They couldn't believe how loud it is. Blah blah blah. Yes, a Plexi is awesome. These were heavy-hitters of youtube guitar stardom and they command a large audience. They also acted like they had never been on front of a loud amp before. To me this is doubly misleading for two reasons 1) Anyone that presents themselves as some kind of guitar pro should have already had that experience, or 2) They were hamming it up for the viewers and that's a big ol pile of phony. Neither of which I can abide. Stuff like that irritates me. These people create a narrative of their choosing and turn it into law through viewership. It's not much different from what forums did in the late 90s and early 00s. You can just see these clowns now.

Exactly, just don't watch it. You're better at dialing in tones and recording that nearly all of them.

I actually remember the video when you posted it. The only ones that had a clue about what a cranked plexi is all about were the That Pedal Show guys.

I don't watch them. I don't care if I'm better or worse or how good or popular they are and how much of a sucky nothing I am. Knowing about them and not speaking out against them makes me complicit. If I see a woman being raped I'm going to do something about it. That's what's happening here. It's rape. The internet is being raped by guys like Fricker and Beato. :mad3: :lollers2:

That is genious!!! Good thinking. I never loved those kinds of stands and never would have ever thought of that. Mostly because i didnt ever have a weight bench around lol.
