Lol. Let's see how it sounds first. :lollers2:

So far I like it. It's pretty cool. I haven't done it up loud yet though.

dude ..... you're on the edge of being an amp builder ...... or at least a hot-rod mod shop.

A little more studying and you're there.
Haha not quite but I learn a bunch more with every little project.

My next trick might be converting this old SS junk combo amp I have in the garage into something useful...like maybe a Champ or Deluxe or something. Maybe I can gut it and build something in the chassis, put a nice speaker in it, and have a decent combo. It's got a reverb tank already.
build me an amp with the right size chassis to fill the opening on my 6101 combo cab after I junk the amp part .... 18 watts please

I dunno but that looks like something I might be able to do. Maybe. I'd do one for myself for sure.

I've had my eye on those 18w TMBs for a while. They look fairly easy. I'd like to build one but I really don't need another flavor of Marshall. There's another company called BYOC - Build Your Own Clone - that has sort of a 4-in-1 Fender kit. It's like a Champ, Tweed, Deluxe, and maybe Bassman all in one. That seems pretty cool....but maybe too complicated. I really want something with a real spring reverb and tremolo.

Lol. If you're actually serious about this, I'd love to try it. Absolutely. But keep in mind that I'm a total hack that has just done a few mods. I'm no amp builder. I think I could do it, sure, but I've never done one from beginning to end before. :eep:

I know you ..... you'd obsess about every detail and it'd be one of the best built kits in the universe.

So lemme figure out my finances ..... it's gonna cost another 90 bucks for the chassis and then 100 for tubes so I need to raise the dough and I want to carefully look over the amp specs to make sure it's a gigging amp I'd use.

But I'm thinking more in terms of how and when to make it happen rather than IF it will happen.

Flattered OK, but you knew more about my amp mod than the tech and it's his job, you diagnosed the problem/short coming and also prescribed the treatment.
Just from forum land you present as someone who believes that a job worth doing is a job worth doing well.

Ha, well amp techs are rapidly moving up my list of people that need to be smacked around. They're not as bad as soundguys, but I'm growing intolerant from all the amp tech horror stories I hear constantly. I'm no tech by any means, but I'm studying and learning and if I can help you guys in some small way through a computer screen, I surely will. I think your guy in particular had good intentions but just didn't/doesn't really know what to do.

OK, the pool of "amp techs" in South Wales must be pretty shallow. But whenever I have used them in the past they've been shite. When I was a kid my little Honer amp broke a couple of times and the amp tech was clueless. My mate's Fender Power Chorus (again solid state) went to an amp tech who basically spent two months fucking around with it to give it back in worse condition than when he got it. The other amp tech my mate sent it too was no better.

The impression I got from the people in Wales was that they're basically guitarists who like tinkering with things and are willing to have a go. They don't appear to really have any idea what they're doing.

Greg, with a bit of practice, you'd make a great amp tech - particularly as a "Vintage Marshall Specialist"
