My gear is okay but I've been, to my mind, hampered by cheap speakers in a cheap Marshall VR cab.
I decided to buy a single Celestion Greenback to use as THE speaker to mic while recording.
I managed to get one at a reasonable price...basically AUS$240 delivered...and even managed to install it without mishap...so far!
The thing will need a little playing to "burn it in" but I needed to make some noise today as I couldn't cope with the deep state, woke actuated Dionysus meets final dinner twaddle that was being peddled near me.
I ended up tracking the speaker to a new song I'm trying to write.
Sadly the Marshall amp is only at MV2 on this as Kim was upstairs and unwell, again.
She may be out of the house on Wednesday so I'll try again then and A/B the quiet and loud tones.
Just three guitar tracks - L, C & R. The right one is mainly power chords - except in the 8 bars set aside for "solo". The left is simple cowboys chords & the centre is cowboys chords held.
I've not EQd or added any plug ins to the guitar tracks. I just blended a 57 & a 609 as best my ears would allow me to. Trying for a brighter tone than usual.
Here's an update. MV at 4 this time. I've not had much chance to play the new set up...luckily Kim was out of the house for an hour yesterday and I was able to crank for a short while. 1 extra accent track on this version & that one has a little high boost going in. I've left off bass n drums for the 1st three bars for contrast.

Definitely an improvement over your usual tracks IMO. I don't think I'm hearing "Greenback" yet as it sounds a little stiff. That could be the newness or the low volume or both. But whatever just keep breaking it in.rayc wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 2:15 am My gear is okay but I've been, to my mind, hampered by cheap speakers in a cheap Marshall VR cab.

Re: Swapping Celestions
Sounds good! I don’t know what a “Greenback” sound is, but I know what sounds good and what doesn’t and this sounds good.
“Naaaaaaaaaah man. I ain’t touching that mic. That thing’s expensive!”
