The Thaw-Retracked Two Chord Song

Post by musicturtle »

Song #2 for my EP project

"The Thaw"

I wrote this way back when we did a two chord song recording challenge. Completely re-tracked with drums added.

This one is further along than the last, pretty much in the mastering stage of this recording.

Thoughts and nits are appreciated.

Seems pretty well balanced.

At first the left guitar felt like it wasn't glued as well as the right. But switching earphones, it turns out it's just my failing hearing. Ah well.

The constant tick tick percussion in the background REALLY sounds like it's in the back of the room...too much reverb? I don't know.
I like this - cool one Tony.

Sounds really good and smooth @musicturtle. Really well recorded buddy.

As someone who lives in the permafrost i quite like this. I like when things thaw. We're likely talking about to entirely different thas though lol.

Hey at 1:56 - 1:57 there is an edit there on the vocal track where the noise floor in between vocals lines vanishes entirely. It's kind of harsh on my cans and sounds pretty cobbled together and i hear an audible pop / click. When you edit out the empty space on a vocal track do you make use of any crossfade kind of edits? Doe your daw ( i think you use ableton) do that for you automatically like it does in reaper?

Thanks for the listen @WhiskeyJack!

I have since re-tracked all the vocals so hopefully that fixed the issue there.

I do piece together vocal tracks sometimes, so I will have to listen in the future to make sure that is not happening.

Like it Tony, the acoustic guitars sound quite unusual, quite close and loads of bright top on them. But they sound nice, so cool.
