Go for it. All the mods you propose are easily reversible. A bit of care with the binding repair and it will be fine. How are the pups and pots because it's those that normally need sorting on Hondo's and the like from that age? The pickups were pretty much random coils with ceramic magnets and the coils often corrode, ditto the pots which become irreversibly scratchy. New smoother pots would would probably make the biggest improvement and then sweeter pups. Again those mods are reversible. If they work fine then all is good.

It's your guitar do whatever you want.

I'm with Mutt...the things you're considering aren't even "mods" really. They're easily reversible and non-destructive. It's not like you're hogging out the wood to install a Floyd Rose. We're talking bolt-on plastics. If you think that will make you happy then do it.

Also siding with Mutt on the pickups and pots. If you really wanna wake that thing up put some good electronics in it. Also...non-destructive and easily reversible.
