Xtreme Octogenerian - a teen tragedy style song

Post by vomitHatSteve »

I've been sitting on this one for ages because it was always intended to be for the glam band fronted by a guy obsessed with Jim Steinman. (That seems like a good match for the long, dramatic song about a new kid in school dying in a motorcycle wreck, you know?)

Anyway, that band is defunct now, so it's a Regdar and the Fighters Song

Mix 2
XtremeOctogenerian.mp3
lyrics
Oooh
He's the Xtreme Octogenarian

They told us there's a new kid at our school; then they told us his age
An 80 year old classmate is anything but cool; let's treat him with contempt and rage
We all gathered 'round, looking for a fight, to beat the new kid's derriere
Then he pulled up on a sweet motorbike, acting like he didn't care

Well he's smart and he's funny and knows how to skate
With a friendly smile that you can't seem to hate

He's the Xtreme Octogenarian
Our lives would be forever changed
By the Xtreme Octogenaria
He showed us a life unrestrained

Pretty soon we all wanted to be like Oct, and the one thing he was is Xtreme
A principled man who can't be sold or bought and captains the karate team

Well he's patient and kind but still knows how to rock
It's good to have a friend who's been around the block

Like the Xtreme Octogenarian
Our lives would be forever changed
By the Xtreme Octogenarian
His actions bordered on deranged

Then one day, he told us he'd try his greatest stunt ever
Ramp his bike over Dead Man's Gorge without helmet, net, or tether
As he sailed gracefully through the air, we realized he wouldn't make it
As he fell, he broke all our hearts. how were we to take it?

Oooh

They told us there's a new kid at our school; then they told us his name
Rebuilt with Robotic parts, he's 8 times as cool. Octy is back in the game

He's the Xtreme Cyborg Octogenarian
Our lives would be forever changed
By the Xtreme Cyborg Octogenarian
We'll sing through the chorus again
About the Xtreme Cyborg Octogenarian
Our lives would never be the same
He's the Xtreme Cyborg Octogenarian
He showed us a life unrestrained

It's a good laugh.
That centre cymbal is a bit loud.
The rest is pretty standard Regdar and the Fighters arrangement & sonics.
Plenty of dynamics and variety to keep it fresh.
I remember disliking "mature aged students" when at teacher's college. It was the age or the personalities but the generalized trait that they worked really hard, did really well & didn't go to the pub.
Cheers

Just that cymbal hit for me... bit loud maybe.

Everything else sounds as it should. Like the slightly drunk piano too. I can imagine it being turned into the extended centrepiece tune of some sprawling stylistic mish mash of Bat Out of Hell and the Rocky Horror Show... :lollers:

Lol! No. As I was posting, I was a little worried it would read that way (motorbikes, old guy), but I wrote it in 2011, when I certainly didn't know you that well (plus, you were what? 60? Barely even old!)

BOoH was definitely the intent here (and maybe some one last kiss and leader of the pack). I'll tack rocky horror too

Several votes on loud crashes. Got it! When I'm home from Christmas, ill take another pass

Coming in on Mix 2.

1:36-1:37 was painful. I'm listening on over ear cans at pretty high DB's. What ever that sample was F'n sucked LOL !!!!

Other than that. I got nothing for you mix wise This stands up to a solid Regdar jam.

Well then, if you're still riding in 8 years, you can retroactively claim this one!

I've got, like, 5 rock operas I've recorded already. It is basically just one step from what I do to musical theater...
