Glad All Over Now

Continuing on with going through some of my old songs from many moons ago, I thought I'd give this one a fresh coat of paint. Written in 2003, I did a rough demo of it around that time and promptly forgot all about it until recently when I found it while going through Cassette's and CD's. A post break up song and pretty biographical for the time it was written.

Probably the shortest recording session I've ever done being just Drums, Bass, 3 Guitar tracks and a Vocal. I could probably flesh it out more with more percussion, accent guitar, etc but the bleakness of it kind of works, I think. How's it sounding?

The first thing that's leaping out at me is that it's very narrow, especially the drums.

It feels like there isn't any stereo aspect to the song until the vocal reverb kicks in. And the reverb is reacting a little weirdly to some of your transients, so on headphones, I'm getting a lot hard panning on the vocal hiccups right before certain words. e.g. around 1:33 on "the future's rosy", I'm hearing the reverb slap back and forth rapidly on the.

Otherwise, the instrumentation all seems balanced to each other.

Cheers VHS, appreciate the feedback. There shouldn't be any Stereo as it is in Mono. I don't do Stereo because being deaf, I can't hear it. I used a Spring Reverb on the vocals and that probably wasn't the best choice. Listening back today I can hear the slap back you mention. It sounded good at 3am this morning.

It was a first mix so not a bad start, I suppose. Thanks again.

Like the song and LOTS of important music is as sparse or even moreso .... there's plenty of stuff there.
Like the guitar interludes and the sound ... very 60's sounding which I like.

Originally it was written to be performed live with just an Acoustic Guitar, which is the same as most of my songs, as back then I was gigging a lot as a solo thing as well as playing bass in bands.

That would make stereo mixing tricky.

The intro is cleverly misleading - I really like it & I'm a fan of mono.
Bass is simple & good harking back to the days of Credence etc where the old root n 5th was solid.

Generally I'd dial back the reverb on the lead vocal just a touch - that would probably resolve the stereo imaging issue to some extent.

I think there's a note or two that could use some pitch correction early in the song.

Nice song though.

Google "Glad All Over" "Hush" and you'll see a 70s Australian band badly reworking the Dave Clarke Five song of the same name. My enduring memory of that particular combination of words...

Ah the days of BIG flare and long hair.
I was in a band at around that time of their previous hit -
I had a white SG copy bass and deep blue velvet suit with BIG flares and the fashionable higher heeled shoes. The rhythm guitarist had a white SG copy guitar with BIGSBY copy too. It looked glam flash with he & I either side of the stage...fortunately no photographs survive.
