Trying for something SHORT n UP beat.

Post by rayc »

Nothing exciting but it's a bit faster & a bit more upbeat I THINK.
Some 12 string electric and some Squire Mustang with Knockhofner bass plus BIAB drums & organ.
There is a place holder BIAB lead part but it will DEFINITELY be replaced.
No melody or lyric yet.
Any thoughts, issues etc?

2nd crack at it with melody too.

Here's a THIRD, tidied, mix with accents etc. Still has a BIAB lead and no vox - not quite ready.

Is is faster though? I mean, it's fine as a piece, but if faster is your aim I'm not sure it is much faster than your normal stuff.

Cymbals are coming across a little crispy/loud but you can sort that when you've further developed it I'm sure.

Just as a suggestion, wind the BPM up in Reaper with everything recorded another 5 - 10 and see what you think of the final product. Not saying it'll work, I genuinely don't know, but simple to try. I think it might give it a bit more intensity.

Nothing else, all good - await further developments. :like:

I'll rarely disagree with a recommendation to play it faster!

I do like that Ray's "short" song is 3 minutes, which is on the longer side for some of us.

I like the bass tone here. Guitars are nice and jangly. Is this using simpler chords than you normally do?

LOL @ short song !

Still a minute longer than my usual attention span these days. Sounds pretty cool Ray. The guitars and bass are gelling really nicely. Quite like that.

I 2nd Armi on the harsh-ish overheads. Look forward to the rest !

Yes,
@Armistice,
I tried the 140 and it was sprightly but I couldn't play along with the 12 string so couldn't do it.
Yes,
@vomitHatSteve,
It's in C with basic chords - an F#m and a C#m thrown in for variation.
Yes,
@WhiskeyJack,
Short but not too short.
I have a shorter one in the works - faster too but doesn't is currently sitting waiting for me to get that particular mojo back.
In the O.P. is a new mix which includes a melody I picked out in a MIDI editor.

I like it. Could it be a bit faster? Maybe but with the melody on it, it makes more sense. Has a very whimsical 60s vibe to it, right up my street.

Keep going, looking forward to hearing this one with lyrics. :coolstorybro:

Try just speeding the 12 string .wav via the BPM control in Reaper up and dropping it into a sped up version. It might past muster sonically, it might not. Worth a try if that's the only constraint. Not something a purist would do perhaps but we're not purists... :wink:

I've tried a few ways around speeding this up but as it is the lyrics JUST fit. Any faster & I'd have to take a razor to the words.
There's an updated mix in the O.P.
