New song - I Don't Care...

Post by vomitHatSteve »

(What you're doing (on your phone))

Back on my usual nonsense. Of course, feedback is always appreciated

Mix 3
IDontCare3.mp3
Mix 2
IDontCare2.mp3
Mix 1
IDontCare1.mp3
lyrics:
I don't care what you're doing on your phone, as long as it's near the stage
Life's not fair, and we are truly alone in this interconnected age

I want you to see me; I'd love you to love me. These aren't reasonable demands
But as long as you're there, I really don't care that your phone is in your hands

You came out; you paid five bucks to see your own friends band
Now you're here: you guess it's polite to give this geek a hand

I want you to hear he; I need you to know me. These aren't reasonable demands
But as long as you're there, I really don't care that you're staring at your hands

Your hands. They're staring at your hands
Everyone here is staring at your hands.
Don't look up you'll draw attention. Try hard not to think about their plans
Why are they staring at your hands?

We all want to be back home, safe before our screens
Trying hard to recall what is and will have been

I want to remember; I need to remember! It's all slipping through my hands
I know I was there, but I just couldn't care what was encanted by those bands

My hands, they were staring at my hands
Why were they all staring at my hands?
I didn't look up or draw attention
I still have no idea of their plans
Why were they staring at my hands?

Brilliant subject, Steve. Even 10 month old children get pissed off when they see you pick up your phone.

As much as its possible to criticise one of your crazy mixes, I don't really have any comments - all sounds good to me.

Good essay...in our house Kim has a habit of putting her phone on the kitchen island so she can read, see and type more easily. She leans on the edge and gets drawn in. The kitten HATES this and always climbs up her back to get her attention.
Musically - solid mix in your style - the quieter sections seem particularly ominous with the bass not necessarily playing the root.
Good one I reckon.
Cheers

Thanks, guys!

Excellent! I'd been sitting on the first passage of this one for a few months unsure how I felt about the sad-sack-shaking-my-fist-at-the-modern-world vibes. I'm glad that the horror direction I ended up going comes through in the arrangement.

You're getting a "slightly out of tune" thing going there on some of the "instruments" - very late era Tom Waits in that sense. Pretty sure no-one's name checked Tom in your stuff before.. :lollers: Works well in the context of what you do. And there's the usual TMBG* vibe going on...

Good song. As JD says, it's hard to critique your mixes as they're not really like anything else, and you know what you're doing by now anyway... :like:

*Now that would be an interesting challenge - The Recording Rebels do TMBG's "Flood" - shame I didn't think of it earlier. :mad3:

Sounds great as usual. At first I thought it needed more meat in the low end but then I realized I was listening on AirPods. After listening on my good headphones it sounds pretty much perfect with the low end. I would just say maybe bring the drums as a whole up a tad? That's the only nit I can think of, and it's a pretty subjective one I think.

New mix in the OP (really, just some automation on the lead vocal to pick up some lost syllables). I'll go back and probably boost the drums soon.

That would be cool! I've done several of their songs now, but none from that album.

IS this the first sad song from Regdar? I can't remember.

Ok i hear some of your regdar noise that sound like beat boxing or something around @1:04ish and i feel like those need to get isolated and made way cooler because it really works nicely with the flow and feel ... for a Regdar jam.

As far as the rest of Mix2 goes i don't hear much of anything that warrants any more effort or attention. πŸ‘

Thanks, WJ.

It depends on what you consider a "sad" song. There are a bunch of Regdar songs with varying levels of angst, but there's always a comedic twist, or it's fictional. This one does have that angst about people not coming to your shows and those that do being on their phones instead of paying attention. But it also ends with the fan being abducted by some kind of mysterious cult and having their memory wiped so it's not too serious!

You are hearing beatboxing, yes, well sort of. I recorded a collection of beatbox-type sounds and made them into a drum machine with reasamplomatic 5k

Mix 3 is in the OP. Mostly a little boost to the drums. Then a little automation to remove the clips that produced, which probably levels out the bgvox a little.

well, ya'; gotta know I like this.
Different sounds and a pastiche of different styles.
You may or may not have noticed the callback to "Everything She does is Magic"

I likes different stuff and this is that so I like it quite a bit

Ohhhh... That is a very similar chord progression. No, I hadn't spotted that at all!
