Hmm, not laughing. . . In all the years I have been here, this (your comment) has been the only crude remark. Again, I am not laughing. . .@JD01 is my friend, as are all the recording rebels here.
It's actually the only thing that's even remotely funny Bubba has said in years. :lollers2:

Guess I shouldn't be so sensitive. But I do believe that was uncalled for.

Bubba and JD are buddies. That's just what friends do in the male gender, even soft weakling pansy boys like JD and Bubba.

Me and JD are good mates. As Greg said, it's what blokes do, because we never truly grow up. Sorry for the building site humour.

Not at lunchtime. You already slipping into the functional alcoholism of a middle class retiree?

It's okay. Honestly, I'm not that easily offended, it just seemed to be an odd comment coming from someone I've never met before. If it had come from anyone else, I'd laugh but. . . well. . .I guess now we've met so, nice to meet you, :lollers2: . . . (Think I drank too much wine last night too!)

Now that I've made a fool of myself. . .back to the challenge! I'd love to see what I can do with Something In The Way, if no one else has claimed it yet. I am arriving rather late to this and I will be doing my usual, "not like the original" style with it but as @Jd suggested, I do hear opportunity for some cool cello, harmonies, and, yes, bass, aka misery stick. :lollers2:

Also, shout out to @rayc and Jd for being first to the finish line. You both did a brilliant job as usual!

Guess I missed out on Something In The Way so, how about Come As You Are? Been listening a bunch and I think I can do something with it. May have to play that bassline on cello though, we'll see. . . Is that cool, @vomitHatSteve ?

I used BIAB for the bits I can't do ... as usual...

I took my lead from Something In The Way & Lt. Bob's observations.
I found the simplest chords online: F# D B with an "interlude" of A
I changed the "chorus" to F#m D Bm to stay awake.
BIAB organ, drums, lead and cello.
I did the bass, arp guitars, FX guitars, trem guitar, odd bits of guitar and choakals.
I tracked a lot more than that but razored away to just a few parts.
Oh, I did Soft Loud by way of arrangement rather than level.
Does it go here or is there a separate space for the results?
I love this take on the song Ray. I think this embodies the spirit of the challenge perfectly, taking the song in a whole different direction. And I think that you ended up with a cool result, I like it. Nice job!

As for me, I'm still actively working on my cover. I'm not doing anything complicated, but it does require something that I'm struggling to do with enough precision to not sound ramshackle. I've gotten frustrated many times already, but it's getting closer. I'm hoping that I'll have it all tracked "close enough" today.

This was a bit crazy, Ray. I admire the intention to make this as unlike the original as possible, and it does have a kind of bizarre psychedelic charm. I'm very uncomfortable with it, though. It feels like a collage of Pink Floyd outtakes. The closest thing I can compare it to is one of those A.I.-generated artworks where everything is chewed up and mutated. Those are pretty disturbing. This bears many characteristics of not having been made by a human hand.

Then task achieved as far as I'm concerned.
No A.I. but it was a case of asking myself, after putting down the bass to the drum track, for obvious PF approaches to certain aspects of the song.
Because I don't play lead I opted for the oddest match I could find in BIAB.
The cello & organ very simply follow the chords which is often what Richard Wright did.
My guitar parts were both quite standard Floydesque arps but I blurred one with a shoegaze effect custard.
I did have some other ideas for the vocals but figured that the three hours I'd invested in the cover were more than enough so ran with what I had.
It wasn't meant to be comfortable - the original isn't. It was meant to be cheap rent Floydish. It is masticated and regurgitated.
I watched an A.I. generated vid clip for a song just a day or so ago & it really is as you describe it.
I particularly liked (?) the unpleasant feeling the slowly lifting cello gives the intro. i knew I'd succeeded when I heard that.
Cheers
