Certainly!

Ok Rebels, I think this might be the first challenge I've participated in!

I'm normally one who slavishly copies a song when covering it. Not this time! My song to cover is "Drain You".

Okay, finally have something. This is my first challenge and I did feel a tad out of my league with this (although I do love Nirvana!).
Tried really hard to copy the bassline but, I'm not much of a bass player! Also tried to put my own spin on the song.
Anyway, here's to my first challenge! :illdrinktothat:

Thanks, Steve. I think it is my second or third time recording bass. Practiced that lick a lot!

COOOOOL Alison,
The bass does have a little bit of rubber ball about it but that fits the full mix really well.
Kurt was a fan of cello as demonstrated on the MTV Unplugged etc.
I really enjoyed your take.

Thank you, Ray! Yeah, I need to learn about proper bass Eq. I started with a preset in Reaper (called "good bass eq" ) then messed with it a bit to try and get some muddiness out. Definitely need to work on that more.
Thanks for listening!

Hi, Alison

firstly, are you going to start your own thread for this in the listening booth? It helps so that the songs and comments are kept with each other, rather than hunting through a long thread.
Secondly, I very much liked everything that you have done with this cover arrangement-wise; I love the accompanying strings, you have a nice voice and you sang well, and the solo was lovely.
I do think that a little bit of work needs to be done balancing the elements of the mix, both in volume and equalization. These are just my opinions, of course! The bass is fine at the start, but it gets lost very quickly when the rest of the instruments start to come in. You could start off with the bass a little louder, and monitor it for relative volume as the other instruments come in, so that it isn't getting lost. I think it's important for the song. Your vocal might just be a tad too loud, I think, but the tone and the eq seem very good.

What are you using for drums, can I ask? If I had one criticism, it would be that the drums are kind of loud, but more importantly they are very heavily biased towards the high frequencies, say 4KHz and above. It makes the kit sound rather harsh and crispy, almost to the point of distortion. This means that they don't sit too well with the other instruments, which have a more balanced eq. Turning the gain down on those drums should help,as will reducing any high shelf eq that you might have on them and lowering their overall volume with respect to everything else.

Otherwise, really good. :smiles: :coolstorybro:

always like your stuff and I swear we're gonna collab at some point.
Everyone's covered the mix so all I have to say is it's pretty good .... like the bass'n and always love your voice.

I have heard this phrase about a dozen times from a dozen different sources in the last month. I've always been aware of it, but it was a long time since I heard anyone actually say it, but even GF came out with it the other day.

It's having a moment. Its time to shine.

That's weird, I can't remember having used it before, except when me and some similarly-minded friends use it (and other) similar phrases ironically. It's a throwback to the Scoobynet forum that I used to frequent, where people who had never seen these french phrases written down would make us roar with laughter.
