So I know RayC and I do it, but I think a couple other videos have been posted that use the technique of padding out performance footage with free footage we pulled from archive.org
Anyway, it's starting to make it's way into the vocabulary of professional music videos too:

Yeah, I feel like this video demonstrates that that they had the budget for good cameras, actors, etc. that none of us do, but the director didn't really have a sense of how to incorporate the stock footage into the video in a way that complements it well.
You probably took, what? A year before your videos started to gel
I picked that particular video because I think it's one of maybe two where I've actually used the technique effectively
