Challenge pitch - the rebels recreate a record

Post by vomitHatSteve »

Here's my pitch for a challenge: we all vote on an album that is at least moderately known and beloved by most of us (like Thriller, or Wish You Were Here, or Nevermind or something). Then each rebel picks a single song off the album and we create a weird tribute album of it.

What do y'all think?

Good idea. Good luck finding an album.

It's a great idea actually. But i agree that with the flow of replies it might be tough to find a common ground record i suspect.

Yeah, I suspect you're right. Probably someone just needs to pick an album and see if everyone else can agree to it.

How about A Night at the Opera by Queen? A lot of classic, beloved songs. Plenty of tonal variety so everyone can find something that fits their style.
Maybe we do Bohemian Rhapsody specifically as a collaborative song with everyone?

HA! that would be pretty fantastic. I think a full album might be a lofty goal. A song could be more attainable.

Don't think an album necessarily has to have something for everyone, cos everyone will rework it anyway. Something with fairly simple songs will be better cos it'll be easier to rearrange them and mutate them into our individual styles.

Nevermind is a decent choice actually.

We could drive everybody mad and pick Trout Mask Replica :D

Even if we can't find an album that everybody loves or even likes, surely we can at least find something that everybody doesn't detest so much that they wouldn't participate.

That would be controversial. Make a version of Trout Mask Replica that you can actually listen to... :eep: :lollers:

Problem with doing a single song where everyone pitches in is that individual people will have individual ideas about what said song should end up like and likely everyone will be disappointed, if you want to really do "rework" on the song itself - ie. not just a straight cover.

We could do Stranglers - The Raven album and really annoy Bubba...

But I'll have a go - doesn't matter so much what the album is if all the songs are going to be reworked versions - that's sort of half the point.

Pitch away. Something B52s could be fun. Interesting pop tunes which could be reworked in any number of interesting ways.

A complete party record...something like Reed's Berlin?

OR, perhaps, and artist.
Cheers

B-52s would be fun. Of course, I only know love shack and rock lobster, so someone would have to recommend an album!

Yeah, I figure we'll all be re-working things pretty extensively. JD's point about simple so we have that flexibility is a good call for that.

What about Rumours? I think that could be ace.

And how would we apportion the tracks, get somebody to draw out of a hat?

Fleetwood mac? I'd be down for that choice too.

I figure we would probably just each pick what song we want to do and hope we can settle conflicts through discussion?

Yes. I don't know anybody who dislikes that album if they've ever heard it.

Ok, that works.

If we end up doing Rumours, I would like to pick "You Make Lovin' Fun".
