Challenge pitch - the rebels recreate a record
Re: Challenge pitch - the rebels recreate a record
@Greg_L if you do this, you should do a song called Breed. Reckon it would suit your voice and you'd make a good job of it.
Re: Challenge pitch - the rebels recreate a record
No thanks. I'm not doing Nirvana or Fleetwood Mac covers.

I didn't think you would.
I'm currently working on my 4th Nirvana cover.
You've done about a million Ramones covers though haven't you.

Yeah, but I don't know if I've ever mentioned it...I actually like Ramones.

so are we going Nevermind>
I'll check out Bloom but if anyone else has something they think I should consider, let me know.
i've never listened to the album and know of nothing except Nevermind

Yeah, it's looking like the consensus is leaning towards Nevermind. I'll start a second thread
You're gonna do In Bloom then, @Lt. Bob ?
Edit, actually @Greg_L, do you like Killing Joke? You could just cover "Eighties" and claim it was "Come As You Are."

Lol the drummer in one of my bands bitches about Nirvana ripping off Killing Joke all the time. He takes it personally. There's a lot of us in a certain age bracket that came up with a certain music that sees through the farce that is Nirvana.vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 11:48 am

In all seriousness, they're very similar riffs but end up being completely different songs. I feel like the Killing Joke one is a lot more interesting and ages better tho.Greg_L wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 12:12 pmLol the drummer in one of my bands bitches about Nirvana ripping off Killing Joke all the time. Re: Challenge pitch - the rebels recreate a record
Nirvana didn't actually want to release Come As You Are cos they thought it was too similar to Killing Joke even though it was unintentionalvomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 5:47 pmIn all seriousness, they're very similar riffs but end up being completely different songs. Re: Challenge pitch - the rebels recreate a record
I have a couple of Killing Joke LPs...80s is a pretty shiny, corporate sheen sort of song for all its intent.

I like how Nirvana so steadfastly "objected" to every single thing they signed up for. So edgy!

They were very upset to become popular millionaires. Just the worst thing that could happen to them!

If only there was a way they didn't have to become popular millionaires! Dang the bad luck!vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 7:35 pm

Mind you Grohl didn't seem to mind any of it too much...he simply continued on from the template and developed his own Dad Rock.

Re: Challenge pitch - the rebels recreate a record
This is true. Barring some fighting with Courtney Love in the 90s, he seems to have taken to being a popular millionaire quite well.
Honestly, Novoselic too. He just went on to do a bunch of weird side projects, which is exactly what I would do in his shoes. It was really only "tortured artist" Cobain that had issues with it.
Re: Challenge pitch - the rebels recreate a record
Wait, didn't we just do Nevermind? Hmm, I just added my vote. . .guess which one? Picked a song too. . .
If I knew what I was doing, I'd be dangerous!

So apparently we should have done Rumors...
