The Raven - a cover version.

Post by Bubba »

Hi everybody. another cover version from me. Better than not recording anything at all, maybe?

I played all the instruments and sang on this.

Recording details:

Drums: Slate drums

Bass guitar: 1978 Fender precision recorded through a Marshall JVM 100w head

Lead guitars: 1996 Fender USA standard Telecaster recorded through Marshall JVM and Roland Jazz Chorus JC-120

Hammond Organ: HANONB70 (free VSTI by LostIn70s)

Main Synths: Oberheim OB-Xa emulation OB-Xd (free VSTI by Disco DSP) on "Rubber Clav" patch, and an edited version of the "Saw Lead" patch.

Recording software: Reaper, by Cockos industries

Interface: Focusrite Scarlett 18i20

Cheers, hope you enjoy.

Been wondering when you'd get yer sorry arse back here with this one... 😁

Great work - I'm getting a new appreciation for The Stranglers from these covers. What's next? You're going to have to do the whole album now... πŸ˜‰

I've long enjoyed the melody on this one and it hasn't changed with this version.
There are just a couple of sibilant bits that jump out.
Nice groove to the bass playing.
The keyboard emulations sound great the way you've played them.
COOL>
Oh, my grand niece is named Raven...three years old an loves black.
Cheers

Nice, I really like the mix here. The synth outro is very cool.

Just listening to this again now, sounds great - particularly the bass.
Also, I'd not heard the original before - yours is better. Its just got more balls.

You did another one from this album a while back, right?

Mix-wise, I think the left synth and right guitar could come up a bit, especially during the intro.

I don't know that i ever listened to Stranglers ever. Here i was thinking it was the band that did the song called Stranded, but that was The Saints. I don't think I'll go nose diving into the original and just enjoy a Bubba recording as it is. I like the guitar work over there on the right. Kinda surfy sounding. Quite like that.

I don't think i have anything to commit to nit picking really. Good Show Bubbs. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

I'm sort of amazed that the Stranglers didn't gain a foothold over in north America, apparently.

Obviously they're English but they had a few hits over here as well, and there's nobody who doesn't know Golden Brown.

Cheers for the listen, Shan. They were regularly in the charts over here for 15 years or so, and had a huge dedicated and fanatical following at the time. They are largely forgotten, now. Odd, really.
