Estavez Park

Post by vomitHatSteve »

Ok! I've got the tracking finished for the next album. So time to do a rush of mixing the plot-important songs and compiling the thing
These next ones are all gonna be extra dense and proggy. Huzzah!

First up is "Repossess the Sky 6: Estavez Park"

Steve, even after all this time, your music still sounds fucking crazy.
Abomination on the left? normal(ish) guitar on the right? or is it just a reverb? As it stands the right guitar sounds really quiet, almost absent. If you bring it up, you might have to turn the left guitar down a bit.
The plips and squeaks might be a touch loud - they're normally more of a texture but they're pretty loud in this mix.
The vocal in the verses might be a tiny bit quiet.

Or you could just ignore all of this, the mix sounds pretty good anyway, that's just a couple of changes that I'd make if it was mine.

Good song, Steve. Listened to it a bunch of times now.

Thank, JD!

Yeah, Abomination is leaning left. Traditional guitar (and lead) are leaning right. I hear what you're saying about abomination being louder; I'll take another pass on that.

Bleep bloops might be a touch loud. I've also got an outstanding bug in their generation that I need to sort out.

As I'm listening again, does it need more verb on the background vox? They're feeling flat to me now.

I like the "noise" of the outro and sudden stop...though I'd glitch that a little for a stutter.
Good song.
The abomination does seem to be driving the song along with the vocals.
Good song.

I don't think the bleeps and bloops are too loud - but only listening on laptop. Getting the slight left lean courtesy of the abomination...

I got nuffin' else. Cool tunage!

Ok, I finally found some time to get back to this. Mix 2 is in the OP

Tweaked some vocal levels. Rhythm guitar levels up to balance the right a little better. Added a phaser to the oohs. Bleep bloop levels tweaked.

I don't know if it's just too early in the morning, but listening now, it sounds flat (and I think I definitely need to bump the leads up)

Still think the vocals in the first verse aren't popping for some reason.
Guitars sound better balanced now... LOL at what you consider a traditional guitar sound.

Yeah, my usual approach to rhythm guitars is probably closer the idea of a "pad"

K, I'll look into bumping the vox some more

Your music is always so much fun to listen to! It's so unique. . .

Anyway, I love what you've done. If I were to make a comment, I'd say that it sounds pretty mid-range, I'd love to hear some highs, but, then, what do I know, aha, ha!

It was a pleasure listening to this.

That's a fair point. I don't tend to focus on the high end much.

I came back for mix 2. don't know how old it is or I I'd heard it previously.
Hmm, I like it but it's a too short...that's a good thing.

I listened to mixes 1 and 2. Two is an improvement.

Mix 1 was missing high end, and mix 2 sounds better there. The vocal is sitting better in mix 2 - it could still come up a nudge and I think you'd be OK.

I think the bass is a little undefined and a bit rumbly.

The level of the chaotic keyboard seemed OK to me.

Rock. Thanks folks. I'll try to get a mix with more vocal bumping up tonight.

Actually @vomitHatSteve I think the vocals are a good level throughout.

I do think the loud "I am a hero, I am important" near the end is a bit too much from the harmonies that are on the that stab. Although, you may just be doing that for dramatic effect.

Love the low end groove you have going here.

Yaks have very big ears. They can multitask audio in ways us humans couldn't dream of.
