7027s are pretty much 6L6GCs. You can use almost any high-power octal base power tube in the Ampegs. EL34s and 6550s need some minor tweaks but they can work. The B+ is a little much for 6V6s, but any other common-to-guitar amps big bottle tube can be used.

yeah but there's some functional pin in them that prevents the 7027s from being used in a 6L6 amp is what I understand

You can use them you just have to make sure the tube socket is wired correctly. For example, Fender likes to use pins 1 and/or 6 to mount components on the tube socket, sort of like a bridge because those pins are unused with a 6L6. With a 7027 you'd need to remove the components off pins 1 and 6 and mount them directly to the proper tube socket pin.

well yeah ..... but if you're willing to mod an amp you can use anything in anything if you mod enough.
But you can just drop a 6L6 into an Ampeg with no mod while that won't work the other way around

And that's probably why nothing under the sun uses 7027s anymore.

there's an accounting of its history on one of the Ampeg sites and I may be misremembering but I think it may have abeen a military tube meant to be extra stout
