Fat Kid Emo Pants - normal Regdar mix ft. You guys!

Post by vomitHatSteve »

Ok, so the 2020s Pop-punk Revival remix was obviously a bit of a gimmick take on the song. This is the real version that I had you guys contribute "woahs" to.

As always, mix feedback is appreciated. Are all the parts coming through? Are the vocals too dark? Do the drums sound good (excepting the bits where they're obviously supposed to be weird)?

Lyrics:

Long ago in high school, I was a scrawny whiner
Then I went to college and gained the "freshman 15"
I need a whole new wardrobe that's big enough to fit me
But shows my friends that I'm still just an angsty teen

I need my fat kid emo pants
Black and wide covered in chains
I need my fat kid emo pants, they weigh me down 'til I can't dance
In my fat kid emo pants

I'm so mad at my girlfriend; she won't loan me her makeup
This is such a betrayal, I think I'm gonna die
She says I'm an adult now, and I should just buy my own
But she doesn't understand the things I feel inside

I need my fat kid emo pants
Black and wide covered in chains
I need my fat kid emo pants, I am just way too sad to dance
In my fat kid emo pants

Every night I cut myself to sleep 'cause you're not there
It's too late I have outgrown you, and you don't care

I need my fat kid emo pants
Black and wide covered in chains
I need my fat kid emo pants, here and now I take my stance
In my fat kid emo pants

I never know where to start with your mixes... you're pretty good at getting things pretty close by now - I might up the snare just a touch, but I didn't hear anything else that concerned me. The gang vocals (too late for me now, huh? :lollers: ) sound really good - and you sound like you have a mariachi band in the corner playing the "horn" parts....

Big tick from me...

But what's the "freshman 15" - I guess I could Google, but you could also explain it?

I think I can guess, but tell me anyway...

Rock. Thanks, Armi.

"Freshman 15" is the 15 pounds that you gain when you first go to college and spend a year eating junk cafeteria food. I think Ray had a different name for it in the other thread.

Haha, I really like this. I can't believe how short it was, felt longer but in a good way. I think the vocals could come up a notch. When you're singing fast some of the words get a little lost in the mix.

Great, fun, little tune though. I dig it! :coolstorybro:

Thanks, Mr. Clean. It is weird how short it is with how many words I have crammed into this little guy! Despite the first verse being under half speed and the sheer number of words, I still run out of unique lyrics at about 1:30!

Mix 2 is in the OP.

I put some transient control on the drum mix and some gating on the snare specifically to help it pop out a little more and give a snappier, less muddy mix.

It probably doesn't affect the vocals significantly, but I'll sit on those for a day or two to see if I wanna boost them a little.

The song is great.

I think the mix is real good as well.

Just a couple of level comments... The vocal in the verse is a little loud. And I think the kick can come up a bit.

I like the rest.

The Mariachi Horns are cool fun.
The gang chants is cool - well done everyone.
I tried but kept being interrrupted so took it as a sign.
I'd have liked a Hollywood Tacky Ending though.....woah ooh ohh Fatttttttt Pantzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Cheers

I'm still kicking myself for missing out on the gang vocals. They came out great!

Another fun one, listening to mix #2 and I don't have any big nits about it.

My freshman 15 went the other way. Our cafeteria's food was demonstrably foul, so I lost 15 pounds because I barely ate any of that slop :D

Thanks folks!

Yeah, my freshman 15 was actually 30. I was a really picky eater as a kid. Somehow as soon as I left home, I completely changed my mind and decided I really liked food.
