That bass has about 7 more frets than you need on a bass, or anyone would want to hear, so you did fine.

Completely agree. Only plugged it in briefly in the shop. Does a good impression of a P bass. I like both pups together. J pup on its own would he useful if I could slap and pop.

My P Bass has a J pickup, and I thought I'd like it but I never ever use it. That bass stays permanently in P mode. Maybe if I had a proper bass amp the J pickup would sound better, but as it is, nope.

I don't know that it's "funky". I think the J pickup is much more focused and probably more suited for intricate bass lines and *gasp* bass chords and arpeggios. None of which I do. So for me the P pickups are always on.

Nice JD!! That is exciting !! It's so tiny though. Looks like funny. I think I'd like to have short scale someday though.

I remember when i was bass shopping , my local shop let me take home A p and J bass to use in my own environment. (My sales guy knows i am not the kind of guy that likes to sit in a store and make my noise, and he knows where i live lol) I found the J and the P sounded pretty much the same only difference being the J just didn't have the jam or drive of the P and just a tiny bit shrouded in wool. Had the nice woody chonk tone of the P bass but no jam and like it had a scarf on.

I ended up with the P-Bass.

In a completely random event I was searching for new bands this morning and I came across Fontaines DC whom I'd never even heard of, so I listened to a YouTube to see whether I liked them or not and guess what, guitarist playing a Mustang...

You know my solder-phobia won't allow this.

I haven't re-strung it and given it a good clean yet, but my initial feeling is that it actually plays really well and that I'm likely to keep it.
When I take it to the tech to get the 3 way toggle installed I'll likely also get him to do a polish and level etc to get it really nicely setup - I really like the tech I go to - my tele was the cheapest one I could find on eBay and was a fucking dog when I got it, but he made a really good job of it - I've tried millions of teles in shops and never picked one off the shelf that plays as nicely as mine.

The mustang is already way better than my tele was when I got it so he should be able to get it to a really good place for me.
