Recording Challenge #TEN - Video Game Cover

Post by liv_rong »

Let's talk about this thing!

I was thinking of doing another cover, but this time a video game tune. There are a ton I can think of.

What do you think?

Lol I don't know any fucking video game songs. I haven't played a video game since like 1985.

Maybe you can turn a DOOM song into a punk version.

So... he'll be doing a cover of a classic heavy metal song? :lollers:

My music already contains a ton of VG noises, so this isn't much of a stretch

If you want a real challenge, you should all do the SAME song... And something that doesn't neatly fit into anyone's fave genre.

That would be a challenge...

I’ve done contests with the same song and they can be boring, but something outside our genre is a good idea. I’ll send a video of the Assassins creed song. I think it’s outside my genre. Age of Agression is waaaay too far inside my genre.

I forgot this had classical guitar, which I still play from time to time, but the rest of it is full on orchestral.

Most of the early Doom music was just a bunch of rip-offs of thrash metal songs

So if you just did some old Metallica or Slayer, you could claim it was a video game cover.

That does sound cool but it leaves people like me with no grasp on music theory or understanding of anything, like notes etc, in the dust lol

That’s one of the many reasons I like the wide scoped stuff.

I had something along the lines of this noted down and and was waiting for #10 to make it a contest / prize kinda of deal. Looks like that got away no me this would be number 10 here.....

I'll pack it away for #15 then. Buys me a bit more time.

I play a lot of video games, but I don't think that I've ever liked any of the music well enough to invest in covering it. Half the time I end up turning the music down or off because it starts to annoy me after so many repetitions. I think the only music I've come close to enjoying is licensed stuff in games like GTA or Mafia III where it plays on the car radio as you drive around.

The Tony Hawk series has some classic skate punk bangers.

I've been advised of this and that's where I'm headed.
