Recording Challenge #9 - Pre 1960

Post by vomitHatSteve »

Alright. I'm making this one official, per @JD01's suggestion, the next challenge is to record a song that was a hit prior to 1960.

I'm well under-way for mine, and am quite excited for the nonsense that I'm doing here.

I like this one. Is there any lower bound on the age of the song? Just anything pre-1960? So 1950s, 1850s, and 1550s would all be fair game?

My electric piano has Fur Elise as a demo preset. I may just play that into Reaper... :lollers:

I think I already did this challenge about a week ago. I'll do it again though soon.

Yeah, no lower bound. (I'm using some Mozart)

Define 'Hit'

Does it have to be an award winner of some sort? Do you need to post along some sort of charting history? records sales?

please advise.

I'm hoping that "hit" is loosely defined :D

The one I've chosen was one of the most popular by the artist, but I don't think that it was a worldwide sensation or anything. It's just a badass song that I'm probably going to butcher beyond all recognition.

I'd say use your own discretion. A lot of Shastakovich's later works weren't widely heard until after the death of Stalin ('cause of the Stalinist suppression of them and all), but they're considered influential and important enough now that I'd call them hits.

If something is centuries old, regardless of how it was received at the time, if people listen to it now, I'd call it a hit. If you can find a Beatles song that isn't a blue link on Wikipedia, well maybe that's not a hit.

LOL - I assumed that "I Can't Help Falling In Love" by Elvis was late 50s. Its 1961. Bollocks. I have a Plan B though.

Nice one, mate. Sounds like you've actually been pretty faithful to the arrangement of the original.
