Lol having a guitar that loosely resembles Mr Dale's will not make me any better at covering his songs.

Yeah maybe. I haven't recorded the reverb unit and Deluxe in a while.

I love metalflake and I have a red metalflake tele thinline but I used a much less work intensive method ....... cradit card!

I was gonna put a pic up but my Android will NOTR let me get the pics into my computer without going thru google or one of the other social things.
Will not let me simply stick a USB cord and get them.
And my iPhone shows the pics but the puter says the files aren't supported.

So imagine a bright sparkly red tele thinline with buckers

I think I'm about ready to do the final level sand and polish this thing.

Image

It's really hard to get a decent indoor pic of this damn thing. This is nearly two full cans of triple thick clear coat, and it's looking pretty smooth and deep. There's a little orange peel but honestly it could probably pass for "good enough" just as it is. But I'm gonna sand and polish it out. If I can pull off the polishing process successfully then this thing should end up looking pretty bad ass and I'll finally be done with this shitty guitar that I probably won't ever play! :coolstorybro:

Says a lot for modern musical instruments when the best thing about them is the paint job :lollers:

Is a 30 yr old guitar a modern instrument?

I guess this thing could technically be considered "vintage". :lollers2:

Well I guess I'm pretty awesome.

This sumbitch has FAR exceeded my expectations. It's like glass. :eep:

So deep and shiny and sparkly.

I wet sanded it to 3000 grit and buffed it with car buffing stuff on a drill buffer. Came out amazing. I'm in shock.

Thanks yall. That's just after medium compound buffing. I'm gonna hit it again and then with the fine polish. It can get even smoother. :eep:

Diminishing returns for sure, but fuck it, I've come this far. :sherlock:

So after that I'll shield it and start reassembly.

Infinite smoothness!

And then you'll drop it eventually, and put a huge, ugly divot in.

Patience is the effort. That's the hardest part - being patient. It's just paint. But waiting the appropriate times between steps is tough. I took way longer than necessary due to weather and lack of experience and all sorts of other shit going on at the same time, which probably worked to my advantage. I couldn't have rushed it even if I wanted to and I think that helped get the good results.
