Tiny Amp

Post by JD01 »

Does anyone know of a tiny amp to use with headphones that is actually decent sounding? Mainly just want a decent clean sound, preferably with a hint of reverb.

Don't even care if it doesn't have a speaker at all, will likely only use it via headphones.

Few options on this list and there's also the Micro Terror.

Does it need to be portable?! Why not get one of those do dads from ik multimedia and put the mobile version of amplitube in your phone?!

Also another vote for that fender amp plug from me. Two people i know have it and are very pleased with it for what it is.

Cheers. I think I have one of them IK things in a drawer somewhere. I'd totally forgotten about it.

I haven't heard the Katana Mini, but love my Katana 50 and Air versions.

I'd forgotten I had it. I'm gonna dig it out later and see if I can get it to work.

I'm actually thinking of getting one of these.

Might be a bit more fun than a little dongle type thing hanging out of my guitar which I think would actually annoy the fuck out of me.

Just need to find out whether I can run it without a cab connected or its useless to me.

Cheers, Bob. Andertons have one of these in stock too so I could get it tomorrow.
I just need to find out whether I can use these mini valve-hybrids without a cab so I can just use them has headphone amps downstairs in the evening and then hook it up to my cab to record occasionally. I like the sound of the Joyo Blue-Jay 'cos its supposed to be a Blues Jr and I fancy a Blues Jr but I just don't have the space or enough of a need to spend a few hundred quid on an amp I'll rarely use. If I can run these little things headphones only with no cab load then I'll probably use them every day!

So, my shortlist is thus:

Joyo Blue Jay - Tube preamp, has an FX loop (I'll pop a reverb in it :) ) only a small 3.5mm headphone jack (I hate adaptors)
Hotone Mojo Diamond - Solid state (definitely will be OK without a speaker load) has a loop, not sure about the headphone jack, cheap!
Orange Micro Terror - Its an Orange! (don't know if it needs a speaker) think it has a 6.3mm loop. Don't think it has a loop.

What would you do? This is mainly for me to play in headphones in the evening with reverb pedal and possibly an overdrive.
But if I can get some good tones I reckon I'd like to stick it in a mix so I have a bit more variety instead of different flavours of my H&K everywhere.

i still dont understand why you dont just use your interface, daw, and sims. you can record direct, right? you have headphones right? load a sim, arm a track, turn on direct monitoring, put on your headphones and go.

Yeah - when I am upstairs I can just use my H&K going into my interface as it has a 0W mode.
I don't fancy a phone app, I find them more irritating than fun! I have tried Amplitube a few years ago and didn't like it.

I basically think I want an amp of some description.

i think one of those joyo things would be a good bet. they have a bunch of different flavors.

Main concern is that its tube - can I use it without a cab?

its only a tube in the preamp. the power amp is SS but i think you'd need some kind of load on it unless the headphone out bypasses the power section.

I've been googling things like "can you use a Joyo Bantamp without a cab" ambiguous so far.

you can easily make a dummy load with these

https://www.amazon.com/Aluminum-Housed- ... 668&sr=8-5

take an old TS jack off an old cable and wire it to one of these resistors. simple 8 ohm dummy load.
