Gating Reverb Sends

Vocals too high in the mix? Too low? Not even sure? Snare sounds wonky? And how do I make everything louder than everything else? Step in, step in, for your mix Viagra from people who know the secrets.

Gating Reverb Sends

Post by JD01 »

Do you know if its possible have different sends to a reverb gated differently? e.g every piece of the drum kit is sent -10 to the reverb impulse, but I want the snare sent at -5 and gated?

Haha. I was considering it! I want to try something weird with my snare sound. I want to send a my snare to a very gated version of the Snare Trash reverb mainly to colour it. And also send it to my normal room verb to place it in thr mix.

The other thing I'd like to do is gate the reverb on the vocals.
The vocals are sent to the same room impulse as everything else. So I don't just want to put a gate on the room impulse... that really would be awful. I just want the gate to apply to the vocals.

I dont know about adding a gate but i know if you click open the send icon on your reverb track there is more faders in there and you can control how much of what is being sent to your reverb?! So you dont have to muck with each pieces actual fader.

Im not at my pc right now but when i get home ill take a screen shot of what im talking about. I suspect though you already know about this though.

Yeah. I know about that.
I think I'm asking for something impossible and I'll just have to have another reverb track with the gated impulse on it.

I think there is a way to do this, but I can't remember how. I'll dig around a bit and see if I can find the tutorial I used years ago to trigger a gate to open by using sends.

You could send to a sub-track of the verb that has the gate on it

You might also be able to put the gate on the snare track but have it output to channels 3+4 instead of 1+2; then send 3+4 to the verb track

Unless the subsequent YouTube clip of the song has a gorilla playing drums in it, I don't think it's going to work... :lollers:
