I'll give you 35'000 for it if you put a fender waterslide decal on the headstock.

I don't even understand what I'm looking at. How did that happen? Was that Jazz Bass under water?

I've no idea mate. One of my long standing customers thought he'd be a funny guy and sent me the pic asking for a quote. I told him I would relic the case to match for a fee.

I don't think it's water damage as wood actually holds integrity if left in water. It looks like a severe case of termite damage to me. It's prolly faked, everything seems to be fake these days.

It COULD be white ants though they'd probably leave a skin in place unless they were feeding with the lid shut.

White ants is also useful as a verb/adverb ... no-one ever termited anyone, but white anting is very common. I tend to use "termites" personally, having had a tussle with the fuckers at a previous property.

I empathise - we basically rebuilt the wooden skeleton after just three years in this place...I reckon they were into when we bought but "pest inspections" aren't worth the paper they're written on...this was confirmed by a Pest inspector earlier this year in conversation as he did the annual inspection.
It is a good verbby thing isn't it?
I still freak out a little when "flying ants" swarm near the house.
