Trouble-shooting crackling in mic

What type and size you need, and where you should point it. Does a large diaphragm do a better job in preventing pregnancy than a small? WTF is phantom power and why do you need it? All these important questions and more, discussed within. Entendre at your own risk.

Trouble-shooting crackling in mic

Post by vomitHatSteve »

I've got a CAD SDC that about a week ago started crackling whenever I use it. (I eliminated all other variables: cables interface, etc. It's definitely the mic.)

Any recommendations as to how to fix something like this?

If those three items don't fix it, you can at least use them to abduct someone that can.

Or....just take it apart and look for loose connections or bad solder joints. Mics use micro-wires, like hair, they can easily become damaged or need to be re-soldered.

For real though....you can circuit bend a child's toy and make a speaker cab out of a beer box. There's nothing in a microphone you can't deal with.

Steve, you're not going to be in Wales in the next week or so are you? Could do with someone fixing my bass.

You guys act like I'm semi-competent at this kinda stuff. I drink too much coffee and have a family history of resting tremor. A qualified solderer I shall never be!

In all seriousness, I'll pop the mic open sometime and see what I can figure out tho.
