And thinking back (it's been a while ) I think I did use silver as the metallic base if I was going to do a bunch of coats to get a darker candy in blue or green so it would reflect more light and brighten it up.
But on lighter colors like red or if I was gonna use fewer coats of color, I'd almost always use copper.
