Look what I found...
Look what I found...
My grandma passed in Sept, and for the past few days I was deep in the swamps of Louisiana clearing out her house to sell it.
And I found this:
GE model C1531
1966/67 AM/FM clock radio
And look at this....it has tubes!
I don't know what the tubes are yet, but I'm wondering if I can get this thing working, or better yet, convert it into a little guitar amp. That cap can says Sept 196-something. Pretty cool. At the very least it will need new capacitors, I'm sure. And a power cord....scary.
All the knobs and dials work smoothly. I need to find a schematic and see what I can do with this thing. Tubes!

Mate, that would be a really cool one to turn into a low wattage head. Something you can get overdriving "tweed" style.
Re: Look what I found...
Yeah, those 4" speakers will be nasty though.
I really need to track down a schematic.

Re: Look what I found...
Lol. I was kinda assuming you'd connect a proper cab!

Hey there, Uncle...Greg.
I hope that's just dust and not moldy crud covering the guts of that clock radio.
awesome youtube comment of the day
Lol it's still less satanic than whatever rituals Katie Perry and Taylor Swift do in their performances.

Noooo. That would require (probably) a different output transformer. The OT in this thing is tiny and I don't know anything about it. I'd try to use it as it stands. I wouldn't go recording an album with it, but it'd be a neat gimmick.

Neat!
Maybe keep the 4" speakers. That sort of thing always gives an... interesting sound at least!

Nice!! Solid state tuning AND AFC!
Re: Look what I found...
Yeah my only concern is that they're rotted. I'll try to replace them if I have to, but I'd rather not.vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Fri Dec 07, 2018 11:51 am Neat!

Well we'll see. I still can't find a schematic. I might just have to try and trace it out and draw it myself.WhiskeyJack wrote: ↑Fri Dec 07, 2018 12:55 pm Greg, if you do end up pulling this off i may shell out a few bucks to ship my old tube radio down to you to do the same!!! Keep us posted.

The back panel says "SUPERHETERODYNE"....Lol.
This is a non-gay radio.

Re: Look what I found...
Will you make use of the knobs already there? Like maybe turn them into tone knobs or something?
“Naaaaaaaaaah man. I ain’t touching that mic. That thing’s expensive!”
Re: Look what I found...
Yeah, that's how I'd prefer to do it....if it's able to be done.CrowsofFritz wrote: ↑Sat Dec 08, 2018 10:52 pm Will you make use of the knobs already there? Like maybe turn them into tone knobs or something?
