Must've nicked his parents' credit card.

Oh man, that is an epic failure! Wow, how embarassing. I mean, what did the band think was going to happen?
"If you book it, they will come"? Apparently not.

I like it. I bet there is some deeper scam to all of this.

Even though every anti-conspiracy-theorist bone in my body says not to...I actually think so too. It's too epically dumb (and expensive!) to be just the lack of planning of some nearsighted douche nozzle. I mean, what would a multi-month European tour cost for a "band" based in LA? (actually it sounds like it was just the one dude and he hired a band) All of the venues were paid in full in advance. The transportation! The lodging! The rehearsal space to teach a hired band your crappy songs! Ack, it would cost a fortune!
Re: How to Set Up Your Own Tour (The JD Method)
Yup. All of that. A dumb trick like that would obviously hemorrhage money with no return on investment. Someone is funding this thing for some nefarious unknown reason.Tadpui wrote: ↑Sat Nov 10, 2018 3:03 am

It kind of reminds me of the Andrew WK rumors about how he is a creation of suits in an office and the guy is just an actor.

Yeah. This has scam written all over it.
Re: How to Set Up Your Own Tour (The JD Method)
I've had a look at this this morning. Glenn Fricker has done a video on it too.
Now, the guy is obviously a dickhead.. and he was clearly trying to bullshit his way to "success" but I also think he might be a victim of a scam himself...
This SoundCloud "success" I had last week got me thinking about it. I'm not a fool, I know that my tracks aren't getting 50 listens a day by actual humans, there's just no reason for it to be true, it's obviously bots. I've been messing with it, every time I post it on Twitter I get a pile more hits.. never any realistic comments.
But I've started getting loads of messages (scams) from people on Twitter and SoundCloud saying they'll promote the track for a nominal fee, like 20 bucks or something, to this massive group of followers, even charging for re-tweats on SoundCloud and Twitter... Now I don't doubt that they'll get you all the hits and you'll have loads of plays. But I reckon most of the plays you'd get are also going to be off further bots generating further fake "buzz"... and so it continues. Like a combination of a pyramid scheme and trading bad debts.
It's possible this "threatin" guy might have built up an army of fake fans and talked himself into genuinely believing that this was gonna work out. I must be hopelessly narcissistic though and I'm sure on some level he must have realised it was all fake.
Thinking more about the logical end of this, you're gonna and up with people making money from Spotify/YouTube plays etc but with few/No real fans, just bots. So you'll have the add revenue for the advertisers advertising to Ukrainian bots.

Now he's getting real attention and publicity because this is part of the scam.

Is he actually any good? Is it a decent mix or anything?

I haven't listened or clicked on any of it. I won't add to the fakeness.
I already know it sucks...

Its not a terrible mix. But its no better than anything most of us could produce. I think even I could produce stuff as good as this.
Its just hugely cliched - sounds like a late 90s early 2000s, fake angst band.
Guitars sound fucking terrible, very simmy, totally gutless.
There's lots of footage of him drumming... but they're clearly fake drums.

The most hilarious thing about this is his "acting" when he plays the guitar.

When I said it was impressive I was referring to his scam btw.

Re: How to Set Up Your Own Tour (The JD Method)
'strue. I don't think any 5 of us could grow hair that glorious between 'em.
2 likely scams I see happening here.
1) He's a rich kid, and "promoter" or "producer" tricked him into dumping a ton of money into a phony tour. (a la ARK Music Factory, Rebecca Black, et al). Promoter already got paid his cut, and his session musician friends are getting paid to take a European vacation right now.
2) In a week or two, he's gonna post a Medium article or YouTube video about how he tricked us all and went viral.
In the first case. Eat the rich, whatever.
In the second case, he might be trying to earn it back in ad revenue?
The music video linked above is a little shy of a million views, which could be netting him a few thousand. If he can get the same 8 million that the Beiber burrito guys did, he might be looking at 10k in just Ad revenue. (Plus merch, plus TV appearances, etc)

Re: How to Set Up Your Own Tour (The JD Method)
Looks like he went with option 2
But in a pathetic, low-key, he-ain't-gonna-make-any-money-back kind of way.
Jared! You've got to do better!
