Matched pairs of mics?

Post by JD01 »

How important is this really? I won't be able to play fast enough for my recordings anyway and will have to get someone else to drum. But I want to spend plenty of time learning to mic a kit and making myself sound half decent first.
I have 1 AKG C1000S and was thinking I could just get another and use them for overheads. Rami said he used them and his drums always sounded good. can pick them up 2nd hand for about 35 quid.
For snare I was gonna use a 57 or i5.
I'll think about the kick later.

Overhead mics don't have to be "matched" at the factory, but they should probably be the same make and model.

Cheers, I'll pick up another C1000S at some point soon.
Not sure what I'll do about the kick yet, toms can wait.
