I only have a gen 1 2i2... and while I do think the Gen 2 Focusrite stuff is really good, part of me still resents them for making such obvious design errors in the first place!

It is pretty piss poor though, 'cos even Line6 managed to have inputs that could take a hot pickup or line in way, way before the Gen1 2i2 was released - it does seem a pretty careless oversight.
I recorded some DI guitar tracks once and sent them to Greg to reamp - even with the preamp gain right down on the 2i2 they were clipping.

Yeah I really agree. It is the reason I upgraded, even though I don't do much high output stuff, I would get the clipping too.
