SM57 Audix i5 Comparison
SM57 Audix i5 Comparison
Alright Dudes,
Most of you know that I really like the Audix i5 and its been my favourite mic since it was recommended to me by Greg. I reckon it not only sounds better than an SM57 in these clips but also sounds most like what I'm hearing in the room

Why even choose? Use both on the same speaker.
Nice video. Are you video guy now?

Don’t think so, I think I’ll get bored of it pretty quickly and I don’t have any other useful ideas.
When I first got the new amp I was double miking with it but I realised pretty quickly that I preferred the i5 on its own. I didn’t expect them to be that different actually, so obvious when they’re back to back like that.

Do you just have the mic hanging from the top of the cab instead of on a stand?
Edit: Ah. It's your backpack.

It's difficult to believe that these mics are capturing the same sound source. I couldn't use the Audix i5 on guitar based on this comparison, but I reckon it would make a very good tom mic for the sound I like.

Yeah - I didn't touch anything on the amp and placed the mics in as close to exactly the same space as I could manage!

Re: SM57 Audix i5 Comparison
It was a pretty good video really and i really apprciated the effort you put on it.
The 57 is hear the nuance thing that i hear in my tracks with the orange that my ear doesn't like. It isn't there with the i5. And the orange is so thick in the mids that i think i could really benefit from an i5.
If i buy one and my wife has a cow it is all JD's fault.

You work your bollocks off mate. 70 quid on a mic will probably go unnoticed

Nice video! Very well done .
It's all personal preference but for me, i prefer the 57. The i5 sound is a little fizzy to me. The 57 thicker and more body.
Rock on JD01 !!

The i5 is my main guitar mic, the '57 is good too, but the i5 seems to just work better for my use...YMMV...
I also have a Sennheiser e609, & while it's good too, I think it sounds best blended with another mic because my e609 doesn't seem to have as much low end, which most likely is user error...
